Struthers, Ohio is a small town in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The population was 9,759 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Middletown-Beacon Valley, OH micropolitan region. The town was originally named Struthersville and incorporated in 1836. It was renamed Struthersville after Captain John Struther who fought in the American Revolutionary War and later served as a delegate to the First United States Congress. The Struther House, built in 1792, is still standing and is a historic landmark located within Struthersville limits. In 1819, Reverend James McNaught founded a mission church here which became known as Christ Episcopal Church (later called First Presbyterian). In 1825, Captain David Biddle donated land to the town for an academy which he also endowed with $10,000 to be used for education purposes. A small school opened up in 1827 but soon closed due to lack of students. In 1830, strutterettes were first put into use on local roads when Governor George Washington granted them free passage on his way to New York City for his inauguration ceremonies. In 1840s there were plans for a canal through strutterville but these never came to fruition because of strong opposition from local farmers and businessmen who felt that it would harm their businesses rather than help them grow more prosperous. One possible reason why this failed was that no one realized how important transportation had become during this time period; goods could now easily be shipped long distances without having to go through any ports or checkpoints like they had done during earlier times. In 1850s President Millard Fillmore gave strutterville permission to build its own school system using private donations which then allowed it to compete head-to-head against Dayton's public schools. This eventually led to Dayton's building of its own large high school which strutterville couldn't match financially even though it boasted better facilities and an acreage advantage over its rival institution! In 1922, a post office was founded at Struthers and remained in operation until it closed in 1984. In 1930, Struthers became one of eight townships within Clinton County as a result of the local government consolidation plan announced by Franklin D Roosevelt during his first term as president. This change gave residents greater control over their own affairs and helped spur economic development within the township. Today, Struthers is known for its shopping districts – struthia on Main Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets; fig trees near Old Township Road 4; and apple orchards on Orchard Drive near State Route 237. It also has a manufacturing sector with some small businesses engaged in production of textiles (elegant cotton twill fabric), shoes (steel-toed cowboy boots), plastics (polyethylene Terephthalate plastic bags) and other products related to agriculture or engineering
