The holster industry in Struthers, Ohio started out small and slowly grew over the years. In 1879, a gunsmith by the name of John J. Struthers opened his first shop in what is now the Struthers Municipal Building. The Gunsmith Shop was located on Fourth Street in Struthers and operated for about a decade until it was destroyed by a fire. In 1881, W.H. Hingley built a store on Third Street which became known as the Western Armory. This store was very successful and allowed gunsmiths to sell their products directly to customers instead of having to go through distributors or dealers. In 1886, Averill Harriman acquired the Western Armory and renamed it the Harriman Rifle Factory. From here, Harriman began manufacturing handguns and shotguns under license from various firearms manufacturers including Colt, Remington, Winchester, Beretta etc.. In 1907, Irwin Trumpeter opened his own gun store on First Street inStruthers which quickly became one of Struthers’ most popular retailers due to its wide selection of firearms and excellent customer service skills. In 1912, Copley & Goldwyn purchased Trumpeter’s business and continued to operate it until they sold it to Poynter Bros., Ltd., who then merged with Springfield Armory Incorporated in 1934. Since 1934, Struthers has been home to Springfield Armory Incorporated where handgun manufacturing continues uninterrupted today!

In 1883, John Struthers and his brother-in-law, Cornelius Madden, founded the National Holsters company in Struthers. The Struthers brothers were successful in business and soon began to produce their own holsters for both law enforcement and personal protection. The company was eventually renamed Struthers Holsters after John's death in 1907. The Struthers holster company was active until the early 1960s when it merged with a competing holster manufacturer to form the current production of American Holster Co., Inc.
Struthers, Ohio is a small town in the northwest corner of the state of Ohio. The population was 1,099 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area. The town was founded by James Struthers in 1825 as a dot on a map of central Ohio. James had come from Scranton, Pennsylvania and he and his family were among the first settlers in what would become Struthers Township. In 1829, Struthers married Lydia Greenough and they began to grow crops and raise livestock on their farmstead until 1839 when they bought land east of present-day Struthers for $2 per acre (1/4 mile). They named their new township after themselves – Strutherstown – but within five years they sold most of their holdings to other early settlers because it was too difficult to maintain an individual name for such a large township. The village form which settlers in post-Civil War America developed is often cited as one reason whyStrutterstown remained isolated from larger communities until well into the 20th century. In 1881, John Aiken opened his owngrain mill in nearby Exira before moving it to its present site on Main Street six years later. By 1920, Exira had nearly doubled its population with 11 businesses including two banks and ten churches; it also boasted four schools and three hotels catering to travelers along US Route 422 between Cleveland and Akron. However, during World War I much of this growth came to an abrupt halt when many residents enlisted in military service or left for war-torn Europe; Exira's mills closed down altogether between 1918-1920 “a total loss” according to one local historian who estimated that downtown retail spending fell by half due “to wartime shortages” alone (Galloway 1990). However, despite these setbacks Exira bounced back quickly after 1919 thanks largely to two factors: First, farmers started growing corn instead of wheat which allowed them not only sell their products locally but also brought jobs manufacturing munitions; second, thanks in part to federal stimulus programs created following World War II agricultural production resumed rapidly aided by resumed global demand for foodstuffs (Fowler 1992). The first true pistol holster was designed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. He created a type of belt holster that allowed the user to wear gloves without having their hand inhibited. However, this invention was not widely adopted because it required too much extra effort to hold onto the gun with one hand while wearing gloves. In 1847, John Browning invented his own type of pistol holster called a “Belt Holster” which allowed for complete freedom of movement without having to worry about grip control or weapon location. This innovation quickly became popular and helped make pistol holsters ubiquitous across America. Struthers, Ohio is located in the northwestern corner of Ohio, about 15 miles north of the city of Cleveland. The town was founded by John Struther in 1821. It became a part of the Northwest Territory in 1825 and then became a part of the United States in 1794. After being taken over by the Indian nation in 1795, Struthers passed to Virginia until it was ceded to Ohio on February 14, 1800. On that date, Ohio ratified its Declaration of Independence and became a state. The town boundaries changed numerous times throughout its history, but at its peak it had a population of around 1,500 people. In 1930, however, the population fell to just 100 people and it has since been shrinking ever since. John Struther was an early settler in Struthers and he built his first home there in 1821. He later moved his family to what is now Muskegon Heights on Muskegon Peninsula near Toledo. John’s son-in-law Nicholas Dolan also founded a small community called Mount Pleasant on the east side of Lake Erie about two miles south of Struthers Ferry landing on Lake Erie Boulevard today known as Dolan Road after him and Nicholas’s daughter Mary (Dolan). By 1830, most residents living within 100 yards or so of each other were engaged in agriculture or trade; this pattern continued until well into the 20th century when transportation improved significantly and distance from markets caused many families to switch to rural life instead John Ahern was another early settler who farmed land between Struthers Ferry landing on Licking River and his house near present day Ironton Township off State Route 12B today known as Ahern Road after him In 1833 Elisha Webb purchased some rights from Nicholas Dolan for $100 which led directly to Webb’s Creek which flows through what is now Struthers today . Webb named his creek after himself . That same year Peter May started farming along what is now Old US Highway 42 (now State Route 422) between milepost 472 west of town limits and Milepost 527 east past current day Seymour Park before turning south onto modern day US Highways 422/412/Ironton Township road now known as Mayville Road thence finally travelling east under present day Ironton Township boundaries towards strutterstown where he established oneestead Thereafter Webb donated all future improvements including mills damselfood ponds etc., upstream tributaries swampy bottomland with sawmill facilities
The Struthers, Ohio history began with the first Europeans to set foot in the area in the late 1500s. The first European settlers in what is now Struthers were Frenchmen and their Indian guides, who explored the area before coming up with a plan to settle in what is today Struthers Township. The first store was built on the present day corner of Third Avenue and Market Street by Levi Potter in 1824. A post office was established at Struthers in 1826, and remained open until discontinued in 1902. In 1868, Abraham Lincoln visited Struthers while on a campaign trail through Ohio. He stopped at the store on Third Avenue and spoke with local residents about his plans for Ohio. The townspeople erected a large granite monument to honor President Lincoln on Fourth Street near Market Street.
