Gun targets have been a part of Struthers, Ohio history for over a century. The first targets were created by Captain William Mifflin in 1868 while he was stationed at Sandusky Naval Shipyard. TheCaptain modified old artillery pieces and made them into target shooters’ equipment. He placed these cannons on the roof of his barracks, right next to the river. The target shooting was such a popular pastime that Captain Mifflin decided to start manufacturing his own targets. His company produced these targets until 1914 when Prohibition caused Captain Mifflin's business to fall apart. Gun Target Manufacturing Company was reborn as International Targets in 1922 and continued producing target guns until 1986 when it closed down again due to economic troubles. Today, there are several small businesses that still produce target firearms in Struthers, Ohio. These businesses continue the tradition of providing customers with high quality products at competitive prices.

The Struthers Rifle Club was organized in 1892. The club purchased a rifle from the Harmon Firearms Company and began shooting at local tournaments. In 1898, the club built their own rifle range and began hosting Gun shows around town. In 1903, the Struthers Rifle Club acquired a gun from John A. Prentice of Akron, Ohio and began hosting matches at their range. In 1912, they constructed a barn for storage and training purposes and named it after Captain David Bickford of the 1st Cavalry United States Regiment who fought in Spain as an artilleryman. The Captain's Barn remains active today as the clubhouse for the Struthers Rifle Club.
Struthers is a small town in Ottawa County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Struthers was established on November 12, 1814. The town was named after Colonel James Struthers, a landowner and political figure in the area. A mill was built near the present day intersection of U.S. Route 26 and State Route 283 in 1829; this mill helped to increase Struthers' trade and eventually its population too. In 1836, Struthers became the site of one of three national banks chartered in Ohio that year – the others were Trust National Bank in Cincinnati and First National Bank of Cleveland. In 1865, Ohio Senator David Davis (R) founded what would become Struthers Township along with other township trustees from Summit Township to create a more centralized government for their respective townships; this move helped to improve civic life within their respective communities. In 1870, when it became possible for people living outside of strutterersville to vote in municipal elections there began what would be known as "the great village" movement where citizens banded together to demand better services or facilities available through their township governments such as schools and libraries- something that still persists today! In 1907-1908 local developer Ewing Halsey designed an original subdivision called "New Beginnings" which quickly grew into one ofStrutterers' most popular areas due to its updated architecture/designs as well as its close proximity to shopping centers and Interstate highways! During World War II manystrutterer residents served in various military roles including working onackship projects across Lake Erie convoying supplies during WWII while also making donations towards Victory gardens set up by American troops stationed overseas! After the war ended some returned home while others continued living abroad until they finally relocated back home permanently around 1960! Today struttererites continue contributing financially towards their community both through property purchases/ownership & volunteeringism!
