Struthers is a small town in Logan County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Struthers was John Struther who came to the area in 1824. He built a cabin on his farmstead which he named "Struther's Store." The first store was open for business on December 12, 1825. In 1828, the struther family donated land to build a school which opened in 1830. In 1850, Reverend Reuben Fenton organized a Methodist church in Struttersville and preached there until his death in 1865. In 1861, Rev. Wm Hahn organized another Methodist church here and remained active until his death in 1971. The first post office here was established on January 7, 1827; it operated until it closed on October 15, 1870 due to lack of customers. The current Post Office building was completed in 1922 and has served as the town hall ever since. A general store called "the Smith House" stood here from about 1840 to 1860 when it burned down near where it currently stands (it had been moved from its original location about two miles away). A blacksmith shop also stood here from about 1840-1860; this structure still remains standing but is not used any more because it no longer meets safety codes today. A gristmill started up around 1830 by John Tritchett; this mill continued operating until 1902 when it caught fire and went out of business completely. Struthers, Ohio is a small town in the southern part of the state of Ohio. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The name comes from early settler John Struther, who named his farm "Struthers" after his family's home in England. The first post office in Struthers was established on July 10, 1825. The village had a population of 183 in 1850 and grew to 597 by 1870. In 1898 it became an incorporated village with a government consisting of a mayor and six trustees. By 1920 Struthers had become an unincorporated community with no government. The first school in Struthers was built on the corner of First and State Streets in 1827-28 and operated for three years until closed due to lack of students. A second school was built on the same site in 1830-31 and operated for four years before being moved to its present location across Third Street from the old schoolhouse. In 1845, Drury Brothers gristmill began operations within struther Village limits; it continued operation until 1951 when it stopped operating due to negative publicity over milltowns around America which were associated with uncontrolled grinding noise that interfered with daily life. In 1957-58 Strutter Elevator Co., Inc., manufactured elevators using locally quarried stone; they are still available today as antique relics from across America In 1911 President William McKinley delivered a speech entitled "A New Deal for American Businessmen" at the Masonic Temple located on Main Street; this event helped spur business growth throughout rural America during World War I On October 12, 1918 local resident Fenton Shearer set off fireworks while driving down Main Street following military maneuvers near Stratford East Czechoslovakia boundary line; this event led to worldwide notoriety among news reporters covering events taking place during World War II
Struthers, Ohio was founded in 1811 by Nicholas Struthers and his wife Elizabeth. The town was named after Nicholas’s father, who had been killed in a hunting accident while straying off the farm. The Struthers family built the first store and tavern in the town, which still stands today. In 1822, Nicholas purchased land east of the town on which he built a sawmill and gristmill that continues to operate today. In 1827, Nicholas married Lydia Barnes and the couple moved tostrutherstown where they continued to operated the business until their death in 1830. Their son James also operated the mill from1827-1871 until it was destroyed by fire. After their deaths, Lydia’s husband John took over management ofthe mill and continued to run it until 1870.
