In 1868, Struthers was the site of the first firearm laws in Ohio. The town passed a ordinance regulating handguns with passage of a vote by the townspeople. This ordinance is known as the "Struthers Gun Bill". The ordinance prohibited bringing any handgun into town and required that all firearms be stored unloaded and in a locked container. It also banned carrying handguns on street corners or in public places. The regulation did not apply to private citizens who owned shotguns or rifles which could be carried openly without Registration and Licence requirements. The ban on handguns in Struthers was repealed in 1871 by an act of the General Assembly but it is still honored today as one of the earliest gun regulations in Ohio history.

Struthers was a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,552 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River. The first settlers in Struthers were Nicholas and his family who arrived in 1792 from Connecticut. Nicholas had built a log cabin on the site of present-day Struthersville and named it Struthersville after his friend and landlord, Jonathan Stroud. A post office was established at Struthersville in 1813, and remained in operation until 1846. The first school in Struthers was erected on the banks of the river in 1814 by Mrs. Lydia Whitefield Bealow; it operated for four years before being closed due to lack of students. In 1818, John Bicknell bought title to land north of present-day Struthersville which he then sold to Simon Morley for $2 per acre (0.40 acres = .50 hectare). Morley laid out a village square on this land and called it Struthersville after himself and his wife Sarah (née Caldwell). In 1824, James Daugherty purchased 4½ acres (1 km²) northeast of strutherstown from Simon Morley for $3 per acre (0.80 acres = .20 hectare). Daugherty laid out a new town center on this land which he named "Strutterstown". The first store opened its doors atstrutterstown on October 12, 1825 under the name "Erie Mercantile Merchants Association". By 1830, there were 10 stores open within strutherstown limits; 5 of these were operated by Jno Fenton as an independent business entity known as "Fenton's Store". In 1830-31 alone, Fenton ran 3 businesses within strutherstown boundaries: 2 harness shops and one millinery shop/store with 30 dresses produced each week! By 1840, there were 20 stores open within struthertown limits; all but 2 were operated by Fenton as independents along with 2 blacksmiths' shops/campsites - one near corner street & one near Elm Street between Main & Clinton Streets! In 1850-51 only 3 businesses survived - 1 grocery store/merchant tailor shop & 2 tailors' shops - all operated by Elisha Laddington as an independently owned enterprise known as Laddington's Tailor Shop (& Clothing Store). During these years much new housing development took place including many frame buildings now used for commercial or residential purposes such as apartments & condos! As late as 1860 just 4 businesses still thrived within strutherstown limits - 1 grocery store/ druggist shop & 3 tailors' workshops! This indicates that even though commerce declined during those early decadesSTRUTHERSDOOMSremained viable!! Following Ohio statehood in 1863 STRUTHERSDOOMSshrank back again!! Only 7 outfits remain today inside old STRUTHERSDOWNTOWNlimits !! Most likely because area became too risky following Union victory over Confederacy during war !! Also may be because many immigrants moving into town during this time lost their jobs so quality clothing options disappeared also
