By 1860, strongsville had a population of about 400 people living along Main Street and two stores with ten customers each. A school was started in 1865 by teachers Peter Houghton and Nathaniel Bacon; it operated for one year before being closed due to financial difficulties. A new school was built oncn Main Street in 1870 by Mrs. Southerland; it operated for many years until it burned down in 1953. One of the early residents of Strongsville was William Kappes who moved to the town from Middletown around 1830 or 1830–31; he became one of its most valuable citizens through his ownership of several lots within town limits that later became part of Strongsville Village streetscape flanked by homesites developed over time into today's downtown business districts including Village Square Park on Court Avenue just east of I-71 across from Stroud Hallmark Video Store - what is now called Republic Blvd., also home to Wells Fargo Banknorth branch since 2006 - as well as other businesses located near FirstEnergy Stadium complex adjacent to Interstate 71 northbound exit #164 - all within walking distance for most adults during their day job hours starting out their working lives back then!
