Strongsville is a city in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1811 by John Strong and his family. It became an incorporated municipality in 1903. The community of Strongsville was located on the west bank of the Muskingum River opposite its current location. A post office was established at Strongsville on October 15, 1811, under the name of "Bellefontaine". On July 1, 1827, it changed its name to "Strongsville", after John Strong's father-in-law, George Washington Strong Sr.. The first school in Strongsville opened in December 1813 with ten students and three teachers. In 1815, a new school building was erected and named for General Anthony Wayne (1778-1847). In 1916–1917 during World War I, munitions manufacturers moved their production facilities from Cleveland to strongsville because of wartime rationing that affected all cities within the war zone except Detroit. The city also gained notoriety when national media reported that local residents had been using black powder as fireworks at Fourth of July parades throughout central Ohio despite knowing it could cause cancer. Afterward many restrictions were placed on fireworks use statewide due to health concerns; however, some still usedstrongsvilley firework displays annually through 2012 . The present day downtown area began to be developed around this time with many businesses moving into what is now called "the districts." This included much of Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt's childhood home which sat atop what is now known as Park Avenue West near 3rd Street South

The town of Strongsville was founded in 1806 by Amos Kendall and his wife, Margaret. The town was named after George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. In 1814, the town was renamed to Strongsville after John Strong, a captain in the American Revolution. The first store in Strongsville opened its doors in 1816. The population of Strongsville grew quickly and by 1828, the town had a total of 100 residents. During the 1830s, strongsvilians built a gristmill and post office on what is now Main Street. In 1836, when Ohio became a state, Strongsville became part of Hamilton County. In 1840, an ice cream factory was built in Strongsville and during this time, the town became known as "the Cream City." By 1850, there were over 200 residents living inStrongsville. After several years of prosperity during whichtime corn prices went up and wheat prices down, however, the cotton industry took overstrongsvilleand many people left for goodduring1860-1870due to lack of jobsIn 1870-1872a severe drought hit Ohio causing crop failures In 1899-1904 two tornadoes struckStrongsville; one that killed 15 people and injured almost 50 others In 1913-1914 construction began on what is now Nationwide Arena
