Strongsville is a city in southeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 54,597 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Strongsville was part of the settlement of Hardin Township, and was named for General James H. Strong, who fought in the American Revolution. In 1825, the town became a village under the name of "Plymouth". On November 12, 1827, Plymouth merged with Hardin Township to form what is now Strongsville Township. The first post office in Strongsville opened on December 1, 1828. The townships were disbanded on March 1, 1907 when they merged into Cuyahoga County. On July 10th of that year it was announced that strongsbville would be annexed by Cleveland as part of an urban renewal project starting in Cleveland's west Side neighborhoods which included many African Americans working within white-owned businesses during the Great Depression era. The annexation process began on October 3rd and continued until January 15th of 1968 when it was announced that strongsbville would become one of nineteen cities and villages being annexed by Cleveland through a plan called "Clevelandization." This event marked a turning point for Strongsville as many residents chose to move away from their downtown core towards new suburbs outside of Cleveland such as Shaker Heights and Mentor which are today some of the most vibrant communities in Greater Cleveland. Although strongsbvillians have since moved back into their downtown core (albeit smaller), much work still needs to be done including developing streetscapes that recall what life used to be like before today's freeway construction completely took over downtown opening up much less pedestrian traffic corridors making it difficult for locals to get out and experience their community without having to travel long distances or take public transportation

Strongsville grew rapidly due to its location near transportation links such as railways, rivers, and roads. By 1900, strongsville had a population of over 50,000 people; however growth slowed during World War II due to military production in nearby Dayton which generated high demand for goods produced in Strongsville but also caused problems with water supply shortages in Weakston
