Strongsville is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,890 at the 2010 census. The downtown area is the largest concentration of businesses and residences in the community. It is also home to Strongsville College. The first settlers in Strongsville were David and Mary Stout who arrived in 1812. Their children, John and Susannah Stout, founded a farmstead on the east side of the river near present-day State Route 84 about 1814. In 1824, David and his wife Rebecca moved from their farmstead to a tract of land that adjoined that of their brother-in-law Amos Kendall on the west side of the river. By 1830, all of Strongsville had been born or raised there: Amos Kendall (1795–1868), James Prentice (1796–1875), Isaac Haggerty (1800–1870), Edward Knox (1802–1885), George Aiken (1805–1886), Hannah Crouse (died 1840) – all residents of Muskingum County until 1830. In 1835, Samuel English purchased land along State Route 84 between Muskingum and Ottawa Counties from David Stout for $1 per acre ($27 per mile). He built what became known as English's Mills which manufactured cloth goods until it closed its doors in 1922 due to World War II Allied bombing raids; today only foundations remain standing. In 1845, Solomon Asbury erected a gristmill on Big Creek just south of where Main Street now stands; it ceased operations around 1900 because water supplies became more reliable downstream at Snow Hill Dam and other mills opened up closer to town center providing greater employment opportunities for people within reach by means such as railroads which linked Strongsville with Dayton throughout most of the 19th century. David French settled here in 1850 after traveling through Ohio visiting various areas including Cincinnati and Toledo before reachingMuskingum County near present-day Akron.. His grandson Maurice French took over operation when he died young in 1895; Maurice's son Charles ran the mill until his death two years later followed by his father's son Emile Jr.'s ownership which continued until 1978 when it was sold to Bowker Paper Company who closed it down temporarily due to poor management before repurchasing it again three years later with new management which continues as Ofgem productions Incorporated since 1984/1985 French High School was established here circa 1870 as part of an effort by educators within Muskingum County to provide education for ladies while their husbands worked elsewhere during this time period beginning with Reverend Mrsn Euphemia Goodspeed whose husband Drury served terms as Superintendent starting February 17th 1870 thru November 15th 1880 & ending December 12th 1890 . With male teachers having left for better paying positions nearer Dayton during this time frame many Ladies lost out on educations they so desperately needed especially given how limited public transportation was at this point . Female enrollment peaked at 226 students mid 1800’s then slowly declined commencing around 1910 Cutcliffe’s departure following state takeover leading directly to majority female enrollment role today without prior educator instruction being offered thereby creating many girls trapped inside single sex schools perpetuating these negative gender stereotypes into our society today however some notable lady educators did manage To hold onto their position during these times such as Mrs Margaret Newmark Classmate Teacher extraordinaire & Mrs Alice Ballard member historian & librarian Cleveland Public Library
