Streetboro is a small town in central Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1824 by settlers from Huntingdon County and became a town on the Scioto River. The population was 5,567 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Streetboro were Native Americans who traveled up the Scioto River from what is now Indiana. They named their village after one of their natural leaders, Shawnee Chief Miami. The first European settler in Streetboro was John Nicholson, who arrived in 1824 as part of a group of farmers led by Col. James Gadsden. The Nicholson family built a log cabin and began farming the land that they purchased from the Indians. In 1830, John Nicholson's son-in-law George Stephenson arrived with his family and platted out what is now known as Stephenson Avenue. In 1837, JF Ryans opened a grist mill there which continued to function until 1850 when it closed due to economic reasons. In 1840, John Haddock established an grocery store and post office there which also continued to function until 1865 when it burned down. The city of Cleveland took over responsibility for postal service in 1865 and discontinued operations here because of its more centralized mail system. A new grocery store opened here in 1903 which continues to operate today as Shopko's Grocery Store。 In 1922, Streetboro had its own school district which operated until 1974 when it merged into Columbiana County Schools System nf Ohio . Today, Streetboro has two schools - District One (Elementary) and District Two (High School).
