It is the county seat of Hamilton County and is included in the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Streetsboro was founded in 1827 as a village on the Scioto River by General David Dixon and settlers from what is now Cincinnati. The first law enforcement officer in Streetsboro was Deputy Sheriff James Barker, who served from 1830 to 1831. From 1833 to 1865, Streetsboro had its own sheriff. In 1865, it became part of Union Township. In 1912, Streetsboro became a city and it has since been one of America's most gun-friendly cities with an extensive acquistion of firearms over the years. Streetsboro is a town in Monroe County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,813 at the 2010 census. The town of Streetsboro was renamed by General George Washington after he arrived there in 1784 as part of the Treaty of Paris following the end of the French and Indian War. The first settler in Streetsboro was John Denton who built a cabin on the east side of what is now Main Street in 1814. Denton moved to what is now the town after his farm failed due to lack of rainfall. A post office called Dentonville was established in 1829, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. The first store opened on Main Street in 1834 by J.C. Reid and Phebe Reid, both from nearby Centerville (now Wheeling). The store became known as "The junction" because it served as the intersection for several roads leading into and out of Streetsboro. In 1830, James Folsom began construction on a house on what is now Railroad Avenue which would become one of Streetsboro's most noted landmarks. Folsom continued to build houses throughout his life and more than 100 were constructed before he died in 1865 at age 90 years old. In 1834, Wm Haggerty started an African Americansmith shop near where current Depot Street meets US-20 just east of downtown Streetsboro proper; this business remains open today as Greater Heights Jewelry & Hardware Inc., one of Columbus' oldest businesses still active within city limits despite changes within City government over time In 1840, local farmer Lewis Moody established a log schoolhouse northwest corner of present-day Park Drive and Depot Roads which became home to Schools #1 through #3 around 1850 followed by Schools #4 through #7 around 1860 before being destroyed by fire about 1870/71 when Moody ran out of money to keep these schools open It should also be noted that there are several entities that have been given their own individual articles within this document such as Churches (Methodist -1830), African Americansmithing shops (Wm Haggerty - 1840), Log Schools (Lewis Moody - 1850), etc... The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location near the new railroads and other industries that sprang up in central Ohio. Today, Streetsboro is a small community with a strong cultural heritage and history. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Butler County were German settlers who arrived from Alsace-Lorraine in 1815. In 1836, they built the first post office in what is now Streetsboro; it was called "Kreuzberg". The name of the settlement came from nearby Kreuzberg (Crossroads) Hill which had been renamed for General Friedrich Wilhelm von Kappebeck after he defeated an army of Indian warriors at that site on October 25, 1835. During the mid-19th century, Streetsboro grew rapidly due to its location near new railroads and other industries that sprung up in central Ohio. By 1850, it had reached its current size of 2 square miles (5 km²). That same year, Streetsboro's first school opened; it was called "the Academy". In 1870, Roads & Bridges company began building a railroad through downtown streetsborough – one of the earliest such projects undertaken in central Ohio – and soon Boulevard Street became one of the most important transportation corridors in town. By 1890, Streetsboro had more than 100 businesses and over 1,000 residents. In 1914–1916,[1] local farmers boycotted production because they felt that World War I had not been fair to them[2] and their crops were damaged by Allied bombing raids.[3][4] However, following victory over Germany at war’s end two years later,[5] prices for goods available within Wallsburg plummeted as American soldiers returned home with large supplies of weapons.[6] This depressed local prices even further for goods produced outside Wallsburg so workers decided to return to their farms instead of investing in new businesses during this difficult time. As a result of this decision by farmers,[7][8] Unemployment rates rose above 20%.[9][10] As times changed during World War II shortages arose due mainly to rationing by America’s allies as well as Europe’s own wartime economies which led to increased production requirements across all sectors throughout liberated Europe including those within Wallsburg whereupon prices dropped again making things much easier for everyone except lower class citizens who still couldn’t afford anything without having their income stolen or being taxed heavily like before when taxes went into government coffers while people didn’t have any say about it because society took care of everything while people just lived off handouts until recently thanksgiving day thank goodness finally something has started changing
