Streetsboro, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area and is bordered by Dayton to the south, Spring Township to the west, and Immaculate Conception Township to the north. Streetsboro was established in 1809 as a small village on land purchased from Sir John Fenton by Captain John Silliman and his family. In 1814, Streetsboro became a town when it was selected as one of five townships in Scioto County after being chosen over locations such as Mentor and Wilmslow. As one of the few towns incorporated within Scioto County during its early years, Streetsboro had some control over its own destiny politically until it lost that power in 1865 when Scioto County merged with Kenton County to form Union County. However, because Streetsboro had been annexed into Union County before Kenton county did, its incorporation remained effective until that point. In 1916, while living in Lebanon Heights after relocating there from New Albany due to gas rationing during World War I, incumbent Mayor Jnoe Pyle offered his resignation if he were named city councillor for Streetsboro instead of becoming city manager of Medina because he felt he could better serve as mayor when City Hall moved from Lebanon Heights to downtown Dayton soon afterwards. After much deliberation among councilors who wanted Pyle gone but also wanted him to stay on hand should something happen to them all (including future mayor Bob Ney), Pyle accepting became an instant symbol of civic pride for Streetsboro and helped keep it economically strong even through tough times during the Great Depression; Streeterville saw some decline following World War II but has since regained most or all of its pre-Depression values including a wide variety of cultural events which attract many tourists each year including music festivals and art shows open to the public which are often well attended despite high costs associated with hosting them).
