In its early years Streetsboro struggled financially but gradually built up a large economy based primarily on agriculture and manufacturing. By 1950 Streetsboro's GDP exceeded that of its smaller sister towns by 20%. In 2002 Streetsboro Mayor Bob Butts announced plans to annex almost all of neighboring unincorporated territory making it into a new city park with similar services including fire protection and police patrols as well as public transportation within walking or biking distance for residents in annexed territory only if they approved annexation petitions; those petitions were not received until after his death in 2010 leaving vacant most major city functions (such as zoning/planning) to be carried out by yet another administrative arm without any input from residents or elected officials until recently when Voters Appointed Commissioners to fill this role

Merchants started calling the area "Theopolis" after Athens, Greece because of its similarity to that city's ancient Acropolis complex - one of only two cities in North America (the other being Philadelphia) where this type of architecture existed during Reconstruction Era times (1868-1912).During World War II, Streetsboro became an important production site for munitions manufacturers due to its location at strategic points along I-71 between Cleveland and Toledo - adjacent to key transportation hubs used by Axis forces during World War II including Lake Erie Naval Base and Munitions Plant No. 4 (now part of Deming Air Force Base). The population peaked at about 30,000 during the late 1940s but declined rapidly due to various factors such as loss of jobs in related industries or suburbanization within reach of larger urban areas. By 1990, there were fewer than 10 residents living in streetsboro proper while more than 20 families lived scattered around rural villages surrounding town limits. Today few people live within walking distance of downtown core; most residents are located outside the town limits on smaller streets near factories or research centers where they can access mass transit or grocery stores
