In Streetsboro, Ohio, on the banks of the Cuyahoga River, in 1821, a group of Quaker settlers founded what is now known as the City of Cleveland. Streetsboro was originally called New Harmony and was laid out in 1798 by John Fenton. The city's first permanent building was a log cabin built on the site of present-day Elmira Hospital. In 1821, the city was chartered as a town and began to grow. By 1830, Streetsboro had a population of over 300 people. The townspeople erected their first schoolhouse in 1832. The town quickly became an important center for commerce and industry because of its location at the confluence of several rivers and its access to resources such as waterpower and forests. In addition to its economic importance, Streetsboro also became an integral part of Cleveland's political life because it was one of the few towns that voted not to secede from Cleveland during the American Civil War (1861-1865). During Reconstruction (1877-1885), Streetboro enjoyed strong political support from Cleveland politicians who saw it as an essential component of efforts to create a more democratic America following Reconstruction. As part of this effort, many Quaker citizens donated land to be used for public parks and streetscapes in downtown Cleveland. After World War II ended in 1945, Streetsboro experienced rapid growth due to new technology companies locating there such as Motorola Solutions and IBM. Today, Streetsboro remains an important center for economic development with heavy emphasis on manufacturing and research activities

Streetboro is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1797 by Revolutionary War veteran John Street and his wife Deborah. Streetboro was named for him and it became a village in 1803. In 1825, the village merged with the township of Reserve to form Streetboro Township. Streetboro Township was consolidated with Stark County on March 1, 1907. The post office at streetboro had been open since 1800 and served as the county seat from 1825 until 1830 when it was moved to Akron. The first school in Streetboro opened in 1798 under auspices of local Baptist preacher Ebenezer Brownell and taught students up to age sixteen. A second school opened in 1800 but soon became too small for students and closed down due to lack of funds; it reopened as a gristmill after being rebuilt by subscription from local farmers. A new school building erected during the American Civil War (1861-1865) served as both schools until it burned down; that same year a new frame school house also replaced it. The old frame school house now serves as an antique museum which is open daily from 9am to 4pm EST except Mondays when it’s closed because of renovation work on the museum annex adjacent thereto In 1865-1966 two sawmills operated side by side on Highfield Road near present day Third Avenue were demolished due to their inefficient use which caused water leakage into a nearby creek resulting in major floods that destroyed many homes along Third Avenue between Highfield Road and South Main Street flooding most residents out located about three miles east of downtown Streetsboro lost an estimated $40,000 Dollars worth of property damage & including practically every white home between Third Avenue eastward & Highfield Road what followed were years of litigation & litigation resulted finally on October 10th 1966 Groundbreaking took place for what would come to be known as “Masonic Temple Old School Building” erection began February 3rd 1967 following completion ceremonies attended by Mayor Clifford Berryman Clerk Of Courts James Fenton Superintendent Of Schools Drury Gorman Mrs Roosevelt Payneroprietor Mrs Sallie Crompton Ladies Auxiliary Committee member Geo Pappas Treasurer
Streetsboro was founded by the Potawatomi tribe in 1796. The town was originally called Greenville and was renamed Streetsboro in 1814 after Major General William J. Street, who had helped lead the American military to victory against Spain at the Battle of Waterloo. Streetsboro became a county seat in 1834, and remains so today.
