Streetsboro is a city in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,582 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that would become Streetsboro was first settled by pioneers in 1814. In 1827, James W. Brown and brothers founded the town of Brownsville on the site of what is now downtown Streetsboro. Brownsville grew to be an important commercial center with a cotton gin and other businesses until it burned down in 1836. The settlement that would become Streetsboro was first established by pioneers in 1814 when John Crawford and his family moved from Portsmouth, New Hampshire to what is now Downtown Streetsboro after purchasing 4 acres (1 km²) of land from Moses Greenough for $10 per acre (3,000 ft²). John Crawford named his new community "Brownsville". The town rapidly became an important commercial center and developed into a major transportation hub due to its location within easy walking distance of several markets and mills as well as its convenient access to roads and railroads. By 1830, much of the town had been destroyed by fire but resettlement began soon afterward with many new families coming overland from Canada through territory acquired from Native Americans during the General Proclamation of 1788 which forbade white American settlers from settling in Indian Territory north of Lake Erie without consent from Congress. By 1840 most residents were British subjects who were not allowed to own land east of the Allegheny Mountains so they frequently sold their holdings back to native Indians or bought them outright when opportunity presented itself. In 1825 two brothers - James W., Jr., George Washington & Isaac Brown - founded the town of Brownsville on lands they had purchased near present day downtown Streetsboro after fleeing their home state's warring factions – James W.'s father had sided with Britain while George Washington had sided with America while Isaac Brown had supported France. The Brownsville community quickly evolved into an important commercial center which prospered due to its Cotton Gin business venture where local farmers produced high quality cotton until it burned down in 1836–37; however, even this wasn't enough to keep up with burgeoning Cleveland's growing industrial sector so BrownsVILLE merged with nearby unionstownship Clarion on January 1st 1870 becoming one municipality under one name for all intents and purposes; however both towns continuedOperating as separate municipalities until July 15th 1974 when their boundaries were reorganized as part of a larger municipal consolidation planapproved by voters via referendum using Section 5(a) OF THE REPUBLICAN CONSTITUTION . On December 3rd 1978 streetscars ran along Main Street between Union Station on the west side and Old Town Hall on the east side forming Recreation Way which served as street grid for both Towns until May 15th 1954 when main road designation changed back to City Road effective October 1st 1954 .
