Stow is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,582 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Stow was David Mills in 1814. The first post office was established in 1816 and the town had its start as an agricultural community with small businesses growing around such things as tanning hides and selling groceries. After a few years of growth and development, it became apparent that there were too many people living on one farmstead and so by 1840, the town site had been re-purposed to serve as a village. The village name changed again to Stow in 1868 when it annexed the neighboring towns of Mayfield and Delaware. In 1870, a railroad line arrived through Stow and soon after came larger villages such as Cleveland Heights (1871), Strongsville (1872), Hillcrest (1877), Euclid (1879), Lyndhurst (1881) and Arlington Heights (1901). This growth led to increased competition for land which created tensions between farmers who wanted more space and mill owners who felt they needed more customers to support their businesses. In 1907, the company that ran the local mills merged with others to form United States Steel Corporation which caused even more job displacement across the country throughout World War I; however, despite this setback Stow slowly regained some lost ground during ensuing decades until its population hit 9,000 by 1970. It wasn't until 2000 when then Mayor Craig Comer decided that enough was enough; he ordered all municipal services uprooted from their buildings and moved them into new facilities just downriver from downtown Cleveland so residents could better experience both city services while still being within walking distance of everything they needed or wanted - something that continues today albeit with reduced hours due to budget constraints). This switch began what has been called "The Great Streets Project" which saw streets renovated/ widened/paved; including Market Street which now boasts two inline bike lanes! 0

Stow was a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, until it was moved to Ohio in the mid-19th century. The community began as a Methodist Episcopal settlement in 1798 and grew rapidly after the American Civil War. By 1870, Stow had a population of 1,500 people and was the largest town in Lower Michigan. In 1881, Stow became an incorporated village with a population of 3,000 people. It experienced rapid growth during World War II and experienced a boom afterward due to its proximity to Lake Erie. However, economic decline has followed since then and now the town has about 1,200 residents.
In 1815, Stow was founded by Nicholas Stow on the east side of the Cuyahoga River. The town's first settler, John Byers, arrived in 1796. In 1807, Stephen Van Ness and his brother built a log cabin in what is now the downtown area of Stow. The Erie Canal connected Buffalo, New York to Cleveland and other parts of Ohio in 1825. The town grew rapidly as people moved into the area to take advantage of the new economy. In 1829, two years after the opening of the canal, Stow became a part of Stark County. Stow experienced economic growth during World War II when military activity occurred nearby. The town became an important manufacturing center after the war and has remained that way since then.
