Stow is a small, unincorporated community in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to settle in what is now Stow were the Dayton brothers in 1796. They came from Delaware and built a trading post on the Scioto River. The post was abandoned after a year and a half because of Indians' raids into the area. A group of farmers who lived near by founded Stow in 1802 as a place to market their crops. The town grew rapidly because it became an agricultural center for Butler County. In 1824, John Washington erected a sawmill and gristmill on White's Creek which powered the town's early economy. In 1827, James Wigglesworth donated land to build a school and parish church which are still standing today. In 1837, Joseph Myndert bought property in what is now Stow from John Washington for $2,000$. He started farming with his wife and two children there until his death in 1840. His wife continued to farm until her death years later; however, her son took over management of the farm until his death in 1886). AfterJoseph Myndert's death, his widow sold most of her holdings to Jno Quesnel who organized what is now called "the Quadruple Alliance." This group purchased all of Quesnel's holdings except for one acre that he gifted to Stow Township along with $1 per acre tax increment that would be generated by its use... this donation helped finance much important infrastructure development within township including roads, water treatment plants etc., during this time period among other things Stowe experienced rapid growth during this time as many people flocked here to escape poverty back east where they had originally come from In 1851-52 George Fenton began construction on what is now known as "Fentonville" - an extensive new village located adjacent to today’s downtown core which would become one of America’s largest villages During this time period many famous Americans such as Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S Grant visited Stowe and made significant contributions both politically & socially

Stow is a small town in central Ohio, located about 25 miles northeast of Cleveland. The population was 7,471 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County. The first settler in Stow was Nicholas Weems, who arrived in 1786. Weems and his family were among the original settlers of what would become Stow Township. Weems' son Peter built a gristmill on the Scioto River in 1806. In 1824, John Sweeny bought land southwest of Stow from Nicholas Weems and founded the town of Sweenyville on that site. In 1825, Isaac McCoy built a sawmill and store at what is now the intersection of Main Street and Wernham Road in what became known as McCoytown. That same year, John Dyer founded Dayton Academy here near where he currently resides (the academy closed in 2001). In 1830, Daniel Webster donated land to build a courthouse here – one which still stands today across from FirstEnergy Stadium on Third Avenue SW. The first law court established in Ohio took place here when Judge David Gwynn presided over proceedings on May 6th, 1830. This building still stands today as part of downtown Stow's government buildings complex- including its former jail cells (now used as classrooms). In 1841–42, James Keedy constructed an irrigation system for pioneer farmer Elijah White; this system helped to irrigate much acreage surrounding Stow village until water availability improved later that decade or so . On November 10th of that same year emancipation papers were filed for all slaves living within 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of any white person- including slaveholders themselves . This event marked an important step forward for African Americans who had been kept enslaved by their owners for generations before this point .. After emancipation came freedom: freedmen began moving into various parts of Ohio starting with Stow Village proper followed soon thereafter by other towns such as Lawrenceburg and Dubuque.– By 1865 there were more than 5500 African American residents living within 1/4 mile (0.6 km) radiusof any white person in Ohio
