A post office called Stirn (later changed to Stowan) was established at present-day Main Street on July 10, 1845; it was renamed Stowe October 3 of that year due to increased mail traffic with increasing distance between Cincinnati and Cleveland due to the American Civil War On November 7, 1850, an act by the United States Congress recognized land east of Mill Creek as part of Stark County and named it after Joshua GridleyStowe (1772-1851), one of its initial commissioners . On December 12th 1862 when Stark County became a separate county within Ohio from Wayne County , Stephen Pritchard (1793-1860), Postmaster General at that time & delegate from Starkville (now Steubenville) filed an application for Patent No . 8090 for lot 523 on Scioto River extending westward from village site

Stow was founded by John Covington in 1795 as an agricultural community on the east bank of the Scioto River between present-day Akron and Canton. The name "Stow" comes from Old English "stowa" meaning place where hay or straw is stored, and "haut" meaning high or elevated (hence "high ground"). The first settler in what is now Stow Township was John Covington, who arrived there in 1795. He built a tavern on the east bank of the Scioto River to provide refreshment for travelers passing through his community on their way to join forces with General George Washington's army during the Revolutionary War against British troops under General John Burgoyne. In 1816, when Stow became part of Cleveland Township, it replaced nearby Berwick as its main commercial center due to railroads reaching that village only after that township was organized five years earlier than Berwick did. In 1827, when Cleveland Township lost its eastern border to Stark Township due to natural boundaries changes within that township caused by Lake Erie's swelling following Huron glaciation,[2] Stow again served as its primary commercial center; however, because it lay along a route newly developed by railroad companies serving other townships within Cleveland Township – such as Parkville and Wilkinsburg – business activities shifted primarily from Stow to those other townships lieu of making visits back to Stow once per week.[3] However, even during these times when Cleveland Township had more significant economic activity than Stowe Village proper,[4][5] much Of That Village' Growth has come about From Whites Settling There After Migration To Northeast Ohio From All Over America And Europe During The 1800s Who Bought Land Here When There Was No Congress Or Government To Protect Them: Manyailed raftbuilders And Loggers Also Lived Here While Prices For Cotton Were So Low They Could Not afford To Leave Plus Many Left When Regulation Came About By The United States Treasury Department Which Said Only American Citizens could own land Here; Most Of These People Are Now buried Under Streets And Walks Right Next Door To Their Ancestors' Graves!

The population of Stow grew rapidly from about 100 residents in 1800 to over 1,500 residents by 1810. In 1824, the Ohio House of Representatives passed a bill authorizing the creation of a county out of portions of Stark and Medina counties. The county was created on July 1, 1825, and named for General Daniel Boone. Stowe became an important manufacturing center during the late 19th century due to its location near transportation routes and its access to resources such as coal and iron ore. During World War I, the city produced munitions for American forces under contract with European allies. After World War II ended, many businesses closed down due to changes in technology or competition from other countries. However, some businesses continue to operate today including one that makes artificial intelligence software
