Stow is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,901 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Boardman, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Stow were members of the French and Indian War party led by Captain Pierre-André La Salle on July 5, 1788. They traded for goods from the Wyandot Indians and built a trading post near what is now downtown Stow. In 1805, Major John Dickey founded an agricultural society in Stow which became known as the Dickey Farm & Market Company. On November 7th of that year, General David Humphreys surrendered at Fort Dearborn after a three-month siege. The village of Stow was platted on April 14th, 1812 by Nicholas Brady who named it for his friend Colonel George Washington Butler (1768–1831). After Perry's Expedition against Mexico in 1846 ended with Mexico's cession of California to the United States, much commercial activity took place along the Mexican border in what became known as "the territorial period". One result was that many frontier farmers began to move into central Ohio and north Indiana; this migration stimulated industrial development throughout southern Ontario County and southwestern Stark County eastward into Lake Erie where land had been purchased or donated by various American businessmen including Lewis Cass (1765–1847) during the eastern part of his political career. By 1850 there were twenty businesses in town alone employing over one hundred people; this growth continued until railroad construction eliminated most industry within five years following America's entry into World War I when transportation demand plummeted across all sectors – including manufacturing – thanks to wartime rationing efforts. During World War II Stow developed some industries such as automotive production for Ford Motor Company and Allied military vehicles while others like agriculture dwindled due to lack of war materials available during peacetime although local companies did produce munitions such as torpedoes used against Japan despite opposition from moral advisors within government circles chaired by Franklin D Roosevelt (1913–1945). With returning soldiers finding jobs starting at local stores rather than joining military training camps like those located outside major cities they gradually shifted towards retail work instead; however even under these more consensual times there has been little change since then with only 1% inflation rates reported from median household incomes between 2000 and 2009 .

Today, it remains an important community with a population of over 10,000 people and extensive commercial development including several shopping malls and several high-rise buildings housing businesses like FedEx Corporation and Wells Fargo Bank . In addition to its economic importance, StOW also has significant historical significance due to its role in American Revolution history. On November 15th , 1775 , local resident George Washington Carrington organized a group called "the Continental Rangers" to resist British forces occupying Philadelphia . With help from locals like Johnstown lawyer James Stanbery , this group fought back against British troops for three days before being successful . This event helped establish American independence and set the stage for future battles against British tyranny
In 1831, Stow was founded by Nicholas built a small mill on the Scioto River. In 1839, the first sawmill in Ohio was started and it continued to be run until 1861 when it became part of the Toledo Manufacturing Company. The mill closed in 1865 and most of its products were exported to Europe. The town was incorporated in 1879 and developed into an industrial center with a large foundry, a locomotive factory, a papermaking plant, and several other businesses. In 1984, the company that operated the mills went bankrupt and all of its assets were sold off.
