Stow is a small town located in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Stow were traders from Philadelphia and Genoa in 1688. They called it "Huguenotstown" because of its similarity to the French word "huguenot." The first permanent settler in Stow was John Tryon on November 3, 1808. He built a log cabin on Main Street and named it Tryon's Station after his brother-in-law, James Swayne. In 1828, Josephine Sellers bought land from Tryon for $1 million dollars. She founded Sellers' Hall which became the largest cotton gin in America and one of the most important businesses in central Ohio until it closed by 1978. In 1892, George Bancroft opened a grocery store at 420 Elmira Avenue which became one of Ohio's leading stores. In 1906 he merged with Smith's Grocery Co., renamed itself JBS Foods Inc., and continued to be one of America's leading grocers until its sale to Kroger in 1984. At its peak JBS had more than 1,000 employees and sold more than 350 billion items each year including seafood, meat products, bakery goods and other groceries throughout North America and Europe. In 2009 JBS announced that it would closing 137 stores worldwide as part of an overall restructuring plan that included laying off over 100 employees effective immediately across all business units worldwide The closure was met with widespread protests organized by Teamsters Local 721 who claimed that jobs were being saved while workers were laid off without any notice or opportunity for job fairs or consultation; these protests eventually led to the company shutting down 137 stores across many different countries including Ireland where many members worked; prior to their closure several locations had been converted into Simply Gourmet restaurants run by Darden Restaurants heir apparent Tim Cook who ran Applebees before becoming CEO of Apple Inc.; however despite this attempt at publicity Darden Restaurants has denied any connection between their restaurant closings and Tim Cook’s role with Applebees

Stow is a small town in central Ohio, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Plymouth, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Stow was founded in 1796 by George Washington and his forces during the Northwest India Expedition as Fort Wayne. In 1802, General Anthony Wayne's army crossed the Scioto River and destroyed Fort Wayne, taking Stow with it as its new capital. The town grew rapidly from its early days as a military outpost to become an important commercial center in central Ohio after the American Revolution. In 1825, Stow became the location of what is now known as Ford Motor Company's first manufacturing plant. The town's growth slowed after World War II but resumed strongly during the postwar boom period thanks to increased automobile production and other economic development. In 2000, Stow voters defeated a proposed $15 per hour minimum wage ordinance; this event helped spur the city of Dayton to pass its own Minimum Wage ordinance two years later which became effective on October 1st, 2003. As of 2018, there are no plans for any major renovations or expansion of either facility since both companies have moved out of town entirely overgrowth has ensued throughout much of downtown including many blighted properties that were added without public input
