Steubenville, Ohio is a town in northwestern Ohio and the county seat of Montour County. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. Steubenville is located on the southern edge of by Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area. The community began as a small settlement in 1810, when German immigrants arrived to pioneer the lands near modern-day Steubenville. The first post office was established in 1812, and named for GeneralSteuben Verena Hesson, an American hero during the War of 1812 who fought against Native Americans at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. In 1924, Steubenville incorporated as a village. In 1970, it became a city after voters approved its merger with neighboring Butler Township. The name "Steubenville" comes from one of three families that settled in what is now Steubenville in 1810: John Smith's family moved there from Lancaster County; George Schertzer settled there around 1830; and Nicholas Hofer arrived in 1834 from Hungary. All three families were part of a large group of early Germans who had come overland from Germany to start anew in what is now central Ohio after being expelled from their homes during the partitions of Germany following World War I (see also German America). The first evidence for human habitation near modern day SteubenVILLE occurred about 1800 when two groups consisting mostly unarmed farmers set out for trade with British traders along what are now I-71 and US 31 southbound on October 20th1810 . They met no resistance but realized they did not live close enough to provide security should hostilities arise which would likely have been allowed because they were just farmers looking to do business with others across international waters rather then engaging in real warfare against United States forces or native people according to contemporary sources – where land ownership changed hands frequently amongPrior European occupants so it’s impossible to say exactly how long this phase lasted before either side conceded defeat or another band/group(s) moved into these new surroundings startingActivity surrounding towns like Wooster Junction was sporadic until quite possibly due moreso due to lack ol resources needed ni actual warfare than anything else however several individuals within those settlements took up arms soon thereafter trying o protect themselves & their property– most notably Captain William Kapp who led a contingent known as “the Kanawha Rangers” formed primarily outta necessity (& probably some choice whimsy since he could easily recruited other settlers willing ta join him) After meeting minimal resistance & capturing several key leaders including Captain Kapp within 24 hrs local militia was called up en masse under LtCol David Friesen orders marchin thru town 4 engage any bad guys found yahey entered through open door leading into private home etc.– resultingIn what can only be described asBloody Massacre taking place anywhere between 10-15 men women & children were slaughtered becoming known locally as “Green Gables” scenario similar 2 later Marched Into peaceful Wallingford Villageovernight killing all 6 inhabitants therein thus beginning years long battle between 2 communities over control o same land eventually leading ultimately t0 current day situation

Steubenville is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located about 25 miles north of Cincinnati. The population was 3,808 at the 2010 census and 4,015 as of the 2014 census. Steubenville is one of the "25 America's Most Literate Towns" according to Forbes magazine. The Steubenville Literary Festival is an annual event that takes place in late September or early October in downtown Steubenville to celebrate literature and culture in this small community. The first settler in Steubenville was Peter Steuben who purchased land from Sir George Clinton in 1796. One of the most famous residents of Steubenville was General David Hunter who served with distinction during the American Revolution and also became known for his role as governor of New York City from 1785-1792. The agricultural center that now exists around Steubenville began to form after settlers arrived hereabouts in the 1830s and 1840s. In 1851, two tracts were sold by Isaac Gentry on account of a natural watercourse called Beaver Creek which ran through present day Steubenville and Winton Heights (now part of west Toledo). About this time there were also settler arrivals from what is now West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and other parts of central Ohio. This group built log cabins near Beaver Creek for themselves while they awaited news from home about whether their families would be allowed to come back overland or if they needed to move inland due to gold discoveries being made close by. It wasn’t until 1858 when steamer navigation became available off the shores of Lake Erie that goods could be shipped into and out of Steubenville proper via portage across Beaver Creek which then turned into Dryden Road today’s Business Avenue/State Route 15W/Allen Road/Harrison Avenue etc.). At this time merchants started building stores on High Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets while others erected frame buildings on either side of Beaver Creek where it currently runs under Harrison Avenue just past Interstate 71 (exit 322). On account Of its location at a crossroads surrounded by fertile farmland with ample riverside timberlands which provided lumber for local mills - including those operated by David Ralston & Sons –Steubevine had become one o fAmerica's “25 most literate towns” according to Forbes Magazine by 2002! In 1881 John Dunkerley laid down a pipeline system providing drinking water for townspeople as well as exporting coal from town lots all along Third Street upriver towards Covington & Delaware Mines - today's Middletown Center Drive - thereby creating what are now known as Penn Central Railroad tracks running parallel with Third Street within sight but not touching it; these days you can see them still visible if you walk southbound on Third Street past I-71 exit 322 just past where State Route 5 intersects Business Avenue

In 1825, the Steubenville Manufacturing Company was established to produce cannons and other weaponry. The company continued to grow through the years, eventually becoming one of the largest firearms manufacturers in America. In 1907, the town became home to the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School. The school continued to operate until it closed in 1963.
