At its peak production, Conklin's mill was responsible for turning out 1 million barrels per year. In 1857, his son Samuel took over the business and continued to grow it until it reached its present size.Today, Millard Fillmore Fillmore & Co.'s mill is one of the largest manufacturers of muzzleloaders in America and employs more than 500 people. It has been located in Steubenville since 1865 when John Millington Beard bought it from Nicholas Conklin. The first guns made at Millard's mill were rifles and pistols for use by Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War (1861-1865). These weapons were cast from wrought iron instead of bronze as many other maker's products did at that time due to lack of resources at home at that time. With such an important product on hand during those times, Millard quickly became known throughout America as a leading manufacturer of firearms and munitions both civilian and military alike! As gun manufacturing techniques improved during the late 1800s, so too did Millard’s output! By 1902 their rifles had evolved into what we now know as bolt-action shotguns! This development came about after years of research by Mr. Fillmore into how best to produce this type firearm using modern patterns and technologies available at the time! Steubenville, Ohio is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,604 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mahoning County. The first settler in Steubenville was John Steuben and his family who arrived in 1797. They were followed by Jacob Steuben and his family in 1802. In 1803, George Washington was born in Steubenville. Other early settlers included Drury and Crouse families who arrived around 1815 and built a log cabin on the current site of downtown Steubenville. In 1830, Ira Randolph came to Steubenville from Canada with his father-in-law David Dodge and their families. He founded the town of Randolph on what is now the south side of Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue. Randolph's store became one of the most important businesses in town until it burned down in 1868. The first school in Steubenville was a rural log building that served as an academy for young children until 1846 when a brick schoolhouse was erected on what is now Park Ave.. This building served as the primary educational institution through most ofSTEUBENVILLE'S HISTORY; AFTER THAT TIME STEUBENVILLE COLLEGE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF OHIO AND PREVAILED OVER OTHER SCHOOLS BECAUSE OF ITS SIZE AND FACILITIES INCLUDING A McLANE LIBRARY LOCATED ON HIGH STREET INSTEUBENVILLE THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED MANY TIMES THROUGHOUT HER OWN CAREFROM A SLOW EARLY DAY WHEN FAMILY MEMBERS WERE HELPING THEIR KIDS BY SHARING ONE Another FAMILY DID THIS ALSO BUT THEY WENT TO BUSINESS SCHOOL FIRST BEFORE GETTING INTO TEACHING AND THEN THEIR OWN SCHOOL AFTER THAT! In 1837, the area that is now Steubenville, Ohio was part of the Indian Territory. In 1839, Steubenville became a town when it was granted a charter by the Ohio General Assembly. The townsite was named for George Washington Steuben and his wife Sally. On July 6, 1841, Congress passed an act authorizing the creation of counties in present-day Ohio. The Act defined county boundaries as follows: "The limits of each County shall be those prescribed by said Act." On January 1, 1847, Steubenville became one of twelve townships in Fayette County and was served by a justice of the peace. On November 3rd of that year, Fayette County Commissioners voted to annex parts of Union Township which lay east of the Scioto River. On February 26th, 1850, Steubenville incorporated as a city and through its incorporation became responsible for all municipal services within its limits including streetlights and waterworks. It remained an independent city until December 12th 1870 when it merged with neighboring Union City into one municipality under the name “Steubenville/Union City”
