During World War I, Steubenville came up with an innovative way to produce munitions: they turned a large corn field into a munitions factory. This factory produced shells, bullets, grenades and other weapons for both World War I and World War II. It was also responsible for some of the most famous military artifacts from these wars: The Liberty Bells were made from cannonballs that Steubenville shot out of their cannons; The USS Constitution was built from 200 tons of ordnance that Steubenville created; and The Pentagon was built from 6 million rounds of ammunition thatSteubenville manufactured.

The Steubenville, Ohio incident is the story of a high school student's rape and murder of two young women. Steubenville, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio near the Indiana border. It was once a major center for coal mining and transportation. The current population was estimated at 14,500 in 2000, making it the smallest incorporated community in Ohio. Its fame comes from the 2014 case of Steubenville high school students who were accused of sexually assaulting two girls. The town began as a small farming village on the north side of Steubenville Creek (now called Gauley Run) about three miles east of present-day Steubenville. The first settler in what is now Steubenville was John Smith, who arrived there in 1810. By 1830, the Village had 1 to 2 hundred residents and lay out streets and built a courthouse. In 1835, when much of central Pennsylvania became part of Ohio,Steubenville voted to become an Indian Territory under Ulysses S Grant’s Department of War Order No. 7 (dated November 10). In 1870, when Steubenville Township was organized into four wards by President Andrew Johnson’s Executive Order 1511–71 (dated February 11), Steubenville became one ward with five residents per ward; each ward had three residents per mile square except for one block which had six residents per mile square due to its location on the main street which ran through all four wards boundaries. In 1875/76 alone (i.e., during Reconstruction), nearly thirty buildings were erected in new blocks within our limits: twenty-six stores, ten hotels and two churches—all built by white businessmen anxious to buy land adjacent to their black cotton fields that were being developed by freedmen as villages or townships; these businesses soon became known as “the white community” because they were patronized by white men only until after World War II when more Negroes came intoSteubenville and most other rural communities throughout eastern Ohio thanks to FHA housing programs created during Franklin D Roosevelt's presidency

Steubenville, Ohio is a small town located in the northern part of the state of Ohio on the banks of the Maumee River. The population was 14,522 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. The first settlers in Steubenville were German immigrants who arrived in 1814 and 1815. They founded a farm called Pembina which became known as "the Granite City". In 1828, John DeWitt Clinton opened a general store in Steubenville and began to sell goods from his store to farmers and other residents of nearby towns. By 1830, Clinton had built a gristmill on the south side of Maumee River which he named "Clinton Mill". In 1830, Anthony Wayne founded Appleton Township (later renamed Alliance) about four miles east of Steubenville. He started an agricultural store there and sold eggs, milk, bacon, butter and other groceries to farmers and others living near him. In 1840, he built a new mill on Big Beaver Creek which he called "Appleton Mill". The mill continued to be operated by Wayne until it was destroyed by fire in 1907. In 1847, Jacob Henschel moved from Pennsylvania to Steubenville with his family and started growing corn on his farm northeast of town. He later opened a grocery business at 5 N Main Street which he operated until 1966 when it was replaced by First United Methodist Church (now Stroudsburg University). In 1850s-60s., many families who lived near Appleton Mill built log homes or barns above their homes for storage or use as summer residences while their crops were grown; these structures are now known as "Homes overlooking mills" or simply as "Homes." By 1870s-80s., most people who lived near Appleton Mill had left for various reasons: some due to technological advances that made farming more efficient; others because they could no longer afford land within easy driving distance of their stores or mills; still others because taxes became too high relative to incomes in those days. A few remained behind until after World War II when many people moved away from rural areas for economic opportunities closer to cities during what has been called The Great Migration . In 1892-93,, Mrs. Anna Jorgensen rented land north of town from her brother Nicholas Jorgensen for $1 per acre (). She then began raising chickens there and selling eggs out back until she bought her own property just west of town in 1916 (). Mrs.-Anna Jorgensen's egg business continues today (2018) as Parkers Egg Company..
The Steubenville, Ohio high school football team was founded in 1881. The team played its first game in 1882 and finished the season undefeated. In 1884, the team won its first state championship. The team also won four national championships in 1924, 1925, 1928 and 1929.
