The first steps in ammunition production took place at Steubenville Armory in 1814. This factory manufactured muskets and pistols for the US military. Ammunition production continued to grow throughout the 1800s, thanks to advances in technology and Methodism's missionary work abroad. In addition to firearms, ammunition also became an important component of farm equipment, artillery projectiles, explosives and other medical supplies. In 1934, Steubenvillearmory closed its doors after sixty-six years of operation. However,tooling still continues today at two other facilities located in Steubenville: The Joseph Muhlenberg Company facility produces revolvers and pistols under license from Colt (the manufacturer) and The Western Gun Manufacturing Company manufactures shotguns under license from Winchester Repeating Arms Company (the manufacturer). These operations provide employment for over 400 individuals who produce munitions products statewide each month!

It is named after George Washington Steuben, an American general and signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town began as a family-owned agricultural village in 1837 on land that was donated by John Nicholson. The name means "main stream" or "middle course" in German and it has been anglicized to Steubenville since then. The first post office opened in 1839, and by 1860 there were 30 residents. In 1881, steamship navigation on Lake Erie caused a flood that destroyed much of the village and most of its buildings; only 10% remain today. In 1915, Steubenville became one of America's first towns to adopt a prohibition policy when it passed an ordinance barring alcoholic beverages from being sold within its limits. It remained such until 1985 when it repealed its prohibition rule due to changing trends among American municipalities and states. In 1993, Steubenville won national recognition for their role in the Timothy McVeigh terrorist attack which killed 168 people at an Oklahoma federal building; this event made them nationally known as symbols of heroism and resilience during times of crisis. Steubenville is a town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton, OH-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was laid out by George Steuben in 1807 and named for General John Stark of the American Revolution. Steubenville became a municipal borough in 1907 and then an unincorporated community within the township until it became a borough on January 1, 1998. On December 16, 2006, Steubenville became one of sixteen communities to be merged into the new city of Akron after being passed over for merger into Canton by the city's mayor and council members. The town was first settled by fur traders from New York City and other parts of North America during the late 17th century. By 1800, Steubenville had become one of the largest settlements in Ohio because it had become an important transportation hub connecting major markets with eastern Kentucky and northern Indiana. In 1807, George Steubenville founded what would later be known asSteubenville Township on land that he donated to his family name along with land stretching south to Lebanon Creek. The township was organized on February 14, 1907 under territorial laws which allowed newly formed municipalities to be chartered without first obtaining a charter from the state government. On January 1st 1998- just days after becoming an unincorporated community within Summit Township- Steubenville Borough finally achieved official status when its residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of incorporation into Akron as part of that city's growth strategy following decades of decline in population size within its borders due to various factors including suburban development around Bloomfield Hills and more recently Morena Township adjacent to downtown Akron Establishing STEUBENVILLE BOROUGHSITE AS HISTORY’S FIRST COMMUNITY OF ITS KINSHIP TO ACKROON

During this time, Steubenville also saw significant progress in its infrastructure including paving roads and building schools.
