Holsters have been around for centuries, and their history in Springfield, Ohio can be traced back to 1805. That year, the town of Springfield was founded by General James Wilkinson and his family. The Wilkinson family became owners of a gunsmith business in the town. In 1807, they moved to what is now the city of Cincinnati, Ohio. The business became successful and the Wilkinson family began selling holsters throughout the United States. In 1811, General George Washington toured Springfield on his way to Baltimore where he would become president. While in town, he stayed at the home of one of Wilkinson's customers, Captain John Selden. Captain Selden had a holster made for Washington that featured a Louis XVI-style cigarette case with a flap that opened to release tobacco. When Washington returned home from Baltimore, he used this holster to travel through Pennsylvania and Maryland without needing to worry about getting lost or having his Tobacco Case stolen again! The popularity of holsters continued to grow during the 19th century. Holster companies began manufacturing more sophisticated models that could hold more ammunition than traditional pistols and rifles. As society grew increasingly complex and technology improved, people needed new ways to protect themselves from harm - including against handguns which were becoming increasingly popular as crime rates rose throughout America HOLSTER HISTORY IN SPRINGFIELD OHIO By: Kimberly Halloran A History major at Kent State University I decided it was time for me too learn more about something that has always fascinated me – Holsters! So much so that when I found out there was no written history on this topic until relatively recently (1980s), I quickly grabbed my research materials and set off into search for any source material I could find! What follows is my attempt at reconstructing an overview of how holsters have evolved over time in Springfield’s gun culture There are many different types of holster designs available today; however most are variations on an old theme – holding onto your firearm with one hand while you use your other hand to do whatever else needs doing (such as reaching for your phone). This basic design has been around since pre-historic times according to some historians; however it wasn’t actually invented until after Colt’s first pistol entered production in 1845 . When Ohio was admitted to the Union on September 17, 1803, it included Springfield in its boundaries. The town was founded by James Hogg and named for General John C. During World War II (1939-1945), Springfield played an important role as the site of both Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (later Wright-Patterson Air National Guard Station) and the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA). In 1947–48 President Harry Truman established Oak Ridge National Laboratory near Clarksburg to conduct nuclear physics research; within two years Oak Ridge had become one of America’s leading scientific institutions. After Mr. Truman’s death in office, his Vice President Al Gore took control of Oak Ridge while Mr. Gore served as Ulysses S Grant’s Presidential candidate in 1988; during that campaign he made public statements which suggest that he would have closed Oak Ridge if he had been elected president instead of George Bush Sr.. In 2000–2001 Mayor Tom Meeks began plans to improve downtown streetscapes with trees planted along them and wider sidewalks; this effort has since borne fruit with more than $35 million having been spent beautifying downtown areas since 2005 alone!
