Springdale, Ohio is a town located in the Athens-Clarke County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Springdale was founded in 1814 as a small community on Scioto Creek east of present-day downtown Springdale. The first firearm implement used by Europeans in what is now Springdale was an Indian rifle called a tomahawk. In 1828, Charles Goodyear developed and patented a machine gun that became known as the Goodyear Gun. The first successful military use of this weapon took place during the American Civil War when Union forces attacked Confederate forces at Petersburg Springs north of Athens, Georgia on April 11, 1865. In 1957, rifles designed to shoot from vehicle windows were introduced into service by U.S. Marine Corps units with Projectile Rifle System (PRS) weapons systems incorporated onto M1911 pistols and carbines fielded through 1984 with upgrades available until 1991 when all M1911 guns were retired due to obsolescence issues caused by various advances in firearms technology over that period including Heckler & Koch assault rifles which then replaced them for infantry use after Operation Desert Storm in 1990; however PRS remained popular among law enforcement agencies and Marines until it too was retired effective October 1st 2000 with replacement efforts underway with selectfire gas operated light pistols chambered for 5mm rounds only

Springdale is located in southeast Summit Township on the outskirts of Akron. The town was founded in 1824 as a result of an act of the General Assembly of Ohio known as the 'Springdale Purchase'. A group of settlers led by Captain John Capps arrived at what is now Springdale on April 8, 1824 and named it after their new home spring near Carlisle, Pennsylvania. At first there were just 10 settlers living in Springdale when it was platted out; today its population numbers only around 800 residents. The early years were challenging for Springdale because they were located so far from any major city or settlement. However, with time and hard work, local farmers began to establish themselves and by 1830 there were several businesses operating in town including a hotel and post office. During World War II many members of the military resided in Springdale due to its proximity to Fort Knox across the state line. After the war ended most soldiers returned home but some continued to live in Springdale until their final departures from Ohio approximately two decades later

Following the war, Springdale experienced significant redevelopment including construction of new homes and businesses. In 1865, Springdale merged with neighboring Sidney to form Sidney-Springdale Township. During this time, many notable people from both towns passed through Springdale including General Ulysses S Grant and William Tecumseh Sherman. Since then,Springdale has undergone several transformations including becoming an incorporated city in 1907; becoming a suburb of Cleveland in 1959; experiencing rapid population growth during the 1970s and 1980s; undergoing large-scale development during the 1990s which led to an increase in crime rates; and finally experiencing significant gentrification beginning in 2015 which has led to increased challenges for local government services and infrastructure.[1] Local history begins with Solon Springsetiemer who settled here circa 1800AD after fleeing Babylonian Captivity

By 1900, only 100 people lived in Springdale.
