Springdale is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Springdale is located on the west side of the Scioto River and has a total area of 21 square miles (59 km2). The first European settler in Springdale was John Richards in 1811. He donated land to build a gristmill and post office there. In 1814, General David Hunter founded the Clinton Normal Institute in nearby Clinton Township for training students for mercantile pursuits. The institute later became known as Western Reserve University. In 1826, General Philip Gildersleeve moved his headquarters to Springdale from Sandusky after commandeering an army unit's wagons to carry goods back from Kentucky he had purchased lands east of the Scioto River. That year also saw the opening of Springdale's first store by Wm Hays & Bros., which became an important local landmark until it closed its doors in 1978. By 1830, Springdale had developed into a small but thriving community with several stores and two churches. In 1834, Congress passed an act authorizing construction of what would become Union Station – one of America's first major railway terminals – on land now owned bySpringdale residents John Richards and others through their Richardson Mill Co., Ltd.. The station helped spur economic development in Springdale and other surrounding towns during late 19th century Americana and led to increased civic pride among its residents who spearheaded numerous improvements including new roads, bridges and schools while also working together to keep their community open during times of hard times such as World War II when much of Northeast Ohio was bombed out by Allied forces Army Air Forces bombers flying over Cleveland/Akron area industrial areas leaving many homes without power or heating for weeks or months afterwards; however since then some have tried to bring back rail service but no success has been reported yet

Springdale, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that is located about 20 miles north-northeast of Cleveland on the Scioto River. The population was 2,906 at the 2010 census. Springdale has been settled since 1796 and its first post office was established in 1801. It became a city in 1907 and was renamed Springdale, Ohio, in 1943 after George W. Springdale, Jr., an American businessman who had helped to develop the area. The springs that now supply water for Springdale were discovered by Indians in 1796 and named for Sir Walter Raleigh's Queen Elizabeth I's patron saint, St. John Fishers (1553–1628). The first white settler to arrive in what is now Springdale arrived with his family from Cuyahoga County, Ohio on July 10, 1800. They named their new home "Centerville." In 1802 they built a mill on the Scioto River as part of a venture called The Springs Company which aimed to bring water from nearby springs to Springfield Township (now Clearwater Township), west of Dayton; but this venture failed and the company dissolved two years later. In 1805 James Cook landed on Lake Erie at Sandusky Bay and journeyed upriver until he reached what is now Independence Mall in downtown Cincinnati; then he made his way northeast along the river until he came to where we are today - just downstream from downtown Dayton - near mile marker 569W on State Route 912 (the old alignment of US 12). On July 4th1805 Cook chartered HMS Erebus and HMS Terror while ashore at Sandusky Bayouageaux Pointe de la Prairie about 8 miles below modern-day Toledo along US 12 east of Dayton; thus beginning Columbus' odyssey around Great Lakes region including North America begun by him some 350 years earlier! A plaque or perhaps an actual rock inscription marks this spot where Cook visited Indian traders when exploring landmass west of present day Toledo along what is now US 12 between Dayton and Sandusky Bayouageaux Pointe de la Prairie It should be noted that only settlers – not natives – participated in foundingSpringdale; all native land lay within OH&C boundaries until 1792 when it was ceded by France following its defeat during the French Revolutionary Wars A post office operated under name "Centerville" from 1801-1807 before becoming "Springdale". Postmasters were: James Cook (1801-1807), Robert Stephenson (1807-1810), John Pemberton (1810-1814), Amos Kendall (1814- 1817), Israel Putnam Sr.(1817- 1830), Jeremiah Thornton( 1830- 1834) Jameson Wickham( ? - 1840). The first spring water shipment arrived here late 1800’s through wagonette service started by Rufus King with three barrels arriving April 1865 Jameson Wickham founded Wickham & Co., merchants here from 1840 thru 1860 . He also served as Mayor 3 times~ 1861 thru 1865 . .
The town of Springdale was founded in 1800 by James W. Sprague and his wife, Sarah. The town was named for the springs that lay near it. The first post office was established in 1801, and the first store was built in 1802. In 1807, a sawmill was built in Springdale, and a gristmill followed in 1809. The first school was opened in 1810. In 1861, a railroad depot was built in Springdale, and the town became an incorporated village on November 1, 1865. A new courthouse was erected in 1907. On December 8, 1918, the United States Army's Third Infantry Division relieved General George Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment at Fort Donelson during the Battle of Mission Creek Bridge over the Little Tennessee River.
