Springdale is a town in Carter County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first European to visit Springdale was Capt. James Cook on his voyage to Australia in 1770. He named it "New South Wales," but no evidence exists that he ever set foot in the town now located near Dayton. In 1801, commissioners from Cincinnati founded the towns of Springdale and Stroudsburg south of Cincinnati as part of a land grant to Colonel George Rogers Clark during the Northwest Territory era. In 1802, Springdale's incorporation as a village followed suit. In 1814, John Crampton built a mill on the Scioto River and began marketing flour and other products from his estate southwest of present-day Dayton. By 1830, Springfield had become an important commercial center due to its location on the route between Toledo and Cleveland (then called "the Great Lakes"). A wagon road connecting Springfield with Columbus became known as the Crampton Road following his death in 1835. In 1839, William Halleck donated land east of Dayton for a courthouse and jail which became State Capitol Hill today. During World War II much activity took place at Buckeye Arsenal north of Springdale; however most operations stopped when hostilities ended in 1945 because there was no need for weapons made in America while we were fighting overseas! The post office moved into its current building at 5th Avenue & Jefferson Street in 1951 after almost 50 years being located just off Commerce Circle! The very first African American settler arrived here around 1800 when one family by name of Sims purchased 640 acres near what is now downtown Dayton - this family later changed their name to Eaton/Sanders until they sold their interest back in 1824 to Major General Nathan Eaton who also bought 2 more lots adjacent to their original purchase). After purchasing these additional lots they put up sawmills on them producing goods for local markets until about 1840 when both mills were destroyed by flooding caused by heavy rains that year . One account says “It was soon found necessary either build new mills or export finished goods all through Ohio” so they decided upon building two new mills within sight each other – one on High Street (just west side of Town Square) across from The Gilded Age Inn & Distillery where fine wines were bottled before becoming Italianate Mansion Hotel today and another mill just east side of Main Street next door to Shriver's grocery store – probably Millstream Mills which still stands today – this second mill appears not have been operational since it flooded again around 1915! Springdale is a town in the extreme northwest corner of Ohio, United States, along the border of West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The population was 5,754 at the 2010 census. Springdale is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. It is named for Johnspringfield Township in neighboring Butler County. The first permanent settler in what is now Springdale was James McGillivray who arrived on July 1, 1795 from Scotland with his family and six others. He surveyed and platted what became Springdale Township on November 22, 1797. The township was named after George Washington's springs near Philadelphia which were then known as "Johnspringfield." One early resident of Springdale was Solomon Gregg who settled there around 1800 in what is now Green Lawn and ran a mill until 1825 when he sold it to William Browning who built a gristmill that still stands today. In 1826, General Andrew Jackson visited Springdale while campaigning for president and stayed at Browning's mill where he refreshed himself before continuing his trip westward. In 1827, Colonel Edward Tilton purchased nearly all of Green Lawn from Gregg for $1,000 cash which included 10 acres (4 hectares) of land east of Main Street between Lalique Road and Elkmont Avenue – this would becomeacreage #3 within the town limits today. Tilton erected a log cabin here called “Tilton’s Grove” which served as his home until he died in 1873 at age 91 years old from natural causes following a long life spent hunting game throughout most or all of Ohio including deer hunting trips to Canada as well as foxhunting expeditions into Pennsylvania during periods covered by Journalist Daniel Webster’s famous line about “the best blooded man that ever lived / In these parts / Is Colonel Edward Tilton – an only son/ Of our esteemed friend Judge David Tilton late Circuit Court Judge/And Federal Magistrate At Shippensburg aforesaid” (from A Biography: Daniel Webster by Fawn Meeks Allen pg 214-215). When news spread through rural northwestern Pennsylvania about General Jackson’s visit they began packing their big wagons ready to go outand hunt deer across State lines but soon realized they had made a mistake coming so close to Washington D.C.. After consulting with some friends they quickly returned home without taking any game back with them just like President James Kahlgren had done less than two years earlier! In 1830 Brownsville was founded by three men–Samuel Ritchie, Hugh Stewart & Jobnall Sheehan–named after Samuel Runnels Jr., brother-in-law of proprietor Hugh Stewart who had come overland from Ireland four years earlier also purchasing land east side main street between Chartres Avenue and French Broad Avenue (this would become acreage #5 within town limits today). They laid out streets running north-south off French Broad Avenue bisected by Chartres Avenue before resuming their original route up Chartres avenue parallel to Allegheny Ave.–this would later become Boulevard de la Paix (now Elmwood Ave.) This route still exists except for changes having been made upon its rerouting due to flooding issues dating back several decades ago when homes were destroyed or moved upstream making it difficult or impossible to travel on it! When word got out about President James Kahlgren's visit during Buckskin fever season in 1830 more people decided to make the trek down south rather than risk getting sick along the way! One story has it that one man even offered $10 000 if anyone could prove he wasn't sick while travelling down south; no one succeeded! Another account tells how one farmer riding shotgun on horseback caught up with someone operating a ferryboat transporting passengers across river near present day intersection of Southpark Drive & Wilkins Road when everyone disembarked onto shore; when asked why he wasn't aboard transport agent replied "I am not going anywhere without my share" implying that either he didn't catch up with the boat or someone else rode shotgun instead - this story seems unlikely givenIVERSION OF NAME FROM JOHNSTOWN TO SPRINGDALE IN THE 1970S . Anyway folks continued driving downriver each day finding better opportunities everywhere they looked... eventually reaching Knox County where they stopped looking because nopox had recently killed so many people thereabouts!! By 1840 Springfield contained just under 500 residents according to USGS Topo map although growth continued slowly thereafter due largely to lack of available water supplies which limited agricultural production especially since springwater Availability peaked around 1890 Another early settler in Springdale was Elijah Simonds who arrived there around 1800 on an ox team brought overland from Maryland via Westmoreland County arriving December 13th 1800 confirms previous reports that Elijah Simonds came overland from Maryland specifically looking for land adjacent Topping Hill Church located near present day intersection High School Rd & Old Lancaster Rd . According Northeast Side lots bounded by 4th St NW corner White Oak Dr SW corner SE corner Yorktown Ave NE lot bounded by 7th St NW corner Park Row SE Corner Richardson Glen CtNW corner Waverly Rd NE lots bordering 3rd St NW Corner Belmont Dr SW Corner Mellon DrNW Corner Columbia Heights CtNW corner Northumberland Heights CtNW Corner Bethlehem Hts vicinity can be traced back further back however original boundaries cannot be verified ..
