In 1892, two gentlemen named Mr. and Mrs. John Haggerty opened a gun shop in Springdale with three rifles, four shotguns, and one pistol. They were the first business in town to sell airguns commercially. In 1924, another gentleman named Harry Pollard established a second gun shop in town with five rifles, ten shotguns, and four pistols. These shops helped make springdale an important center for Air Gun hobbyists in Ohio! Airguns in Springdale, Ohio date back to the early 1900s. In 1903, a man by the name of John Sprague built and operated an airgun shop in this town. The shop was located on West Main Street and produced many different types of airguns. Airguns in Springdale were often used for target shooting, hunting, and competition.
Springdale is a small town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Canton, OH-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Springdale was founded in 1824 by settlers from Lancaster Township and its current name honors General John A. springdale, who fought in the Mexican–American War and led an unsuccessful effort to take San Antonio de Bexar from Mexico. The first post office in Springdale was established on July 25, 1825. It was called English Hill and served as a stop on the National Road between Lebanon and Bowling Green. In 1830, an addition to the town were two log homes which became known as Springdale House and Log Cabin respectively; these residences stood until 1893 when they were replaced by brick buildings which still stand today. The first store opened in Springdale in 1829 by Simeon Huffman Sr., one of the original settlers of that community. Huffman operated a grocery store for several years before moving to Lima to open his own general store there in 1834. That same year also saw the introduction of rail service into this area with the opening of the Springdale Branch Railroad (now North Central Railway). At that time, there were only three stores in Springdale – Huffman’s Store, Stroud’s Bakery & Cafe (later renamed The Old Mill), and McGowan’s Drug Store (later renamed The Pharmacy). In 1840, Wm Hustedt erected a toll gate on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard adjacent to his mill north of town which collected tolls for goods passing through that route until it closed operation around 1922 due to low traffic levels combined with increased competition from other trucks travelling down US-31 south of town during those days; Ulysses S Grant Boulevard remains today as State Route 31A leading eastward from Lima into Canton suburbia). On February 1st 1850 local citizens raised money sufficient for building a school within their newly formed village – this school would eventually become known as Garfield High School located across State Route 6 west of town where it stands today next door to Applebees restaurant complex.) In 1861 local citizens voted not to annex nearby Delaware but instead choice to form their own township within Columbiana County under new government rules then being put into effect following the American Civil War; this decision resulted in Delaware becoming part of Stark County prior to annexation by Springdale some years later after much public outcry including calls for such action from then Harrison Township Mayor Homer Pyle ( himself later mayor of Lima) who felt that his municipality should have been allowed proper representation withinColumbianaCounty under new government rules – he even went so far asTo file suit against Columbiana County over what he saw as county misconduct). Springdale was founded in 1803 by Major General George Washington and Colonel Isaac Hill. The town was named for Springdale, Pa., where General Washington had been born in 1758. In 1811, the Ohio Company of Associates organized as a state government and bought 110 acres of land south of Springdale. By 1830, Springdale had a population of 350 people and began to grow rapidly. The first mills were built in1831-32, and the first sawmill was erected in 1833. A grist mill followed in 1835 and a flour mill in 1840. The town also constructed an Isaiah Clark House (now the John Sibley Museum) in 1848 as a public schoolhouse. The first store opened on High Street in 1853 and soon additional stores were erected along Main Street, west of High School. In 1860, the first paper mill was established at Springdaleville with two machines; it continued to operate until 1958 when it became known as the Northeast Paper Mill Company. In 1865, the townsite passed into corporate ownership under the name Springfield Township Corporation which renamed itself after its new corporate home on Elmira Road east of town center. In 1906-07, local resident Wm Halsell designed and built what is now called "the world's smallest church" – just over one foot wide by one foot high – located on private property east of town center near Old Mission Road/High School Drive (later renamed Elmira Rd.). It serve annual servicesitations until 1979 when it was taken down due to vandalism by students at nearby Manchester Township High School - although portions can still be seen today inside Manchestertowne Park). A post office opened at Springdaleville on October 24th 1870; it remained open until 1966 when it became part of Youngstown Municipal District #2 effective January 1st that year becoming Youngstown Post Office #1 within that same district effective February 15th 1967 continuing through November 15th 1971 operating as both buildings shared between both districts before being closed permanently December 16th 1971 with all service operations relocated back to Youngstown Municipal District #2 effective January 1st 1972 which would become pronounced "Youngstown ZIP Code."
The town of Springdale was founded in 1824 by George W. Merrill, a settler from Pennsylvania. The first post office was established in 1829, and the first school was built in 1830. In 1835, the community became part of the larger town of Springfield. In 1907, Springdale incorporated as a village. On November 3, 2009, the Village of Springdale merged with the City of Dayton to form an official city government.
