Springboro, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 25,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom metropolitan area. The first settlers to what is now Springboro were Englishmen who came overland from England in 1795 and called it "New Town." They built a log cabin on the east side of town about 1810-12. In 1825, John Crampton built a large frame house on Main Street near present day Elmhurst Avenue which still stands today as one of Springboro's most prominent landmarks. About this time, also, James Hilton bought land adjoining Crampton's house and laid out what is now Elmhurst Avenue. There were four schools in Springboro during its early years: Indian School (now Grange Elementary), Presbyterian Academy (now Eastern High School), Spring Grove Academy (now Western High School), and King's Chapel School (now Highland Park Middle/High school). The first rifle stock company ever organized in America was founded in Springboro by Captains John Crampton, James Hilton and William Hogg on April 10th, 1825. This company was known as "The Rifle Company".
