springboro, ohio is a town in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Springboro was given to it by General George Washington in 1795 while he was commander of the Northwest Territory. The first gun lock company in Springboro was founded by three men from Lancaster County in 1814: Job Smith, Nicholas Flournoy and Ebenezer Cook. They made locks for local farmers and businessman. By 1825, there were ten lock companies operating inSpringboro. In 1834, Major John Cranch organized a regiment of cavalry to help suppress Native American uprisings across Ohio and Kentucky. When he arrived in Springboro on July 10th he found that the Lock Company had been looted and all its firearms confiscated! This created an outcry among the community as they felt that their firepower had been taken away without due process or compensation - something which still rankles today! In 1837-38 Colonel John Butler organized a militia unit called "The Bluegrass Brigade" to suppression Indian hostilities along the Great Lakes region including what is now Dayton/Springboro area. He also orderedlockers be made for his unit's horsemen so they could carry pistols with them on military campaigns instead of rifles which were more common at the time. During this time lockers started becoming more popular as handguns because they were less likely to get lost or stolen during travel than rifles which could easily be lost or stolen when not being used (especially if stored outside). As more people began traveling through Dayton and Springboro these lockers became increasingly important for stores/enterprises as well as individuals travelling between towns/cities
