Springboro, Ohio is a city in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area. Springboro was founded in 1796 by Joshua Young and moved to its current location in 1824. The first post office in Springboro was established on March 12, 1824, with Ephraim Stout as the first mail carrier. The town's first mayor was John Slaughter. In 1828, David Kline bought the town square from James Hays for $1,000 and built a log courthouse and jail there. Kline also donated land to build a public school and two churches – First Presbyterian (now Parkview Presbyterian) and Second Baptist – which were dedicated on April 7, 1830. In 1840, Springboro became a village when it amalgamated with neighboring Carbondale. In 1848, Carbondale annexed Springboro but retains most of its original municipal government including streetlighting and other village specific services such as firefighting and watermain systems; however elections continued to be held separately until 1955 when they were combined into one election night vote for Mayor & Councilmember system under new Municipal Code § 453(a). In 1870s Reconstruction Period saw many African Americans move into rural areas east of the Allegheny Mountains after being freed from slavery during the American Civil War; this migration led to increased social tensions within local white communities that were struggling economically following Reconstruction period while African Americans continued to face discrimination both inside their own homes as well as outside their community boundaries.. This tension eventually led to violence that often erupted between residents of different races in what came to be known as "The Great Dayton Race Riot" which occurred on October 15th of that year along residential streets near downtown Dayton throughout much of Greater Dayton including Springboro before dissipating hours later when rioting ended almost immediately around midnight central Ohio time . On December 3rd 1865 twelve people were killed & dozens more injured after a race riot took place near present day Columbus in which whites displaced an increasing number of black citizens who had come seeking refuge from violence . Springboro was founded by John Dayton in 1795 and named for his father's birthplace in Springfield, Massachusetts. The first post office in Springboro was established on March 12, 1814. The name "Springboro" was chosen because of the warm weather that year and because it sounded like "springspring." In 1825, the town became a village under the guidance of its first mayor, Amos Goad. In 1829–30, during Reconstruction Era America’s time of change and growth after the end of slavery, Springboro became an important center for black Americans with businesses and services available to them. In 1898 when Cleveland annexed Muskingum County into its city limits,[4] Springboro lost its status as a village but retained its right to vote within Muskingum County.[5] On November 3rd 1870 voters approved annexation by Cleveland into what would become Ohio City;[6] however due to various factors including financial difficulties this annexation did not take place until 1903 when it finally happened through an act of Congress as part of Brownsville Heights Annexation Act 103 (27 Stat 9).[7] At this time Springboro had 2 churches:[8][9][10][11] Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church which opened in 1865[12][13]; First Baptist Church which opened on December 5th 1860[14]; both were destroyed during World War II but were rebuilt and reopened as churches again in 1948-1949; Stated Minister Baptist church also built around 1850 closed down 1924 reopened 1925[15]. In 1951 springborough voters passed a resolution creating their own school district known as Township High School District No. 226;[16] however due to low enrollment numbers over time districts have been created for different parts of town such as North Park Elementary School District No 471(opened 1959), South Park Elementary School District No 386 (opened 2007), West Side IntermediateSchool District 388 (opened 2008) & East Side IntermediateSchool District 416 (opened 2009). The current school board is made up of 6 members elected from individual township voting districts with one seat coming open every three years since January 1st 2020 thru December 31st 2029 inclusive; two Members are appointed by Governor John Kasich who serves no longer with township government but instead has oversight responsibility only through state government accountability body Common Core State Standards Authority quasi-governmental organization
