South Euclid is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,387 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in South Euclid were Nicholas and Catherine Smith who arrived in 1792 from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They chose a site on the east side of what is now Canal Road because it was accessible by water and had good soil for farming. The Smiths donated land to the town so that it could be built on and named after them. South Euclid's original plat included a square mile (1 km²) of land measuring 1/2 mile (0.8 km²) wide and 3/4 mile (1 km²) long with lots measuring 12x24 feet (3x10 m). South Euclid was chartered as a village in 1814. A post office was established at South Euclid in 1825, and remained in operation until 1907. The Village of South Euclid lost its charter status when it merged with nearby Centerville into the city of Akron in 1907. However, the name "South Euclid" still remains as an unofficial name for parts of Centerville that are not within City limits such as Seward Park and White Chapel Hill neighborhoods which are located within Township boundaries but have their own postal ZIP code due to their unusual location within Akron proper

The population of South Euclid grew rapidly during the era of railroad development, reaching 100,000 by 1900. After being ignored for decades by both Cleveland and Cincinnati because its location made it difficult to build commuter railroads, South Euclid received help from the City of Cleveland in 1978 when its own mayor submitted a Request for Grant application to receive $25 million from the federal government to improve transportation infrastructure within town limits. During this time, also, many new businesses were erected around downtown including two major malls: One on High Street and one on Clinton Avenue near Lake Erie shoreline. Today South Euclid is known for its wide variety of cultural attractions which include several museums such as The Cleveland Museum of Art and The Walters Art Museum; three amusement parks including Cedar Fair Park and Great Lakes Aquarium; several golf courses; more than 60 restaurants; and numerous small businesses clustered around downtown with an active nightlife scene.
South Euclid was founded in 1812 by General David Dixon. The town was named for Colonel John Spencer South, one of the first settlers in the area. Dixon's store and post office were located on what is now State Route 22. The town grew quickly and soon had a school, church, and two stores. In 1825, South Euclid became a part of the newly formed township of Mentor. In 1830, South Euclid erected a courthouse and jail with funds from local residents. A new school was built in 1836 and another in 1840. In 1847, voters approved a plat for the village of South Euclid on land that would later become North Side Square. The village lasted until its merger with Mentor in 1868.
