South Euclid, Ohio is a town in the northernmost section of the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of Erie County and is northwest of Cleveland on the southern edge of Lake Erie. The town was named for General James South Euclid, who served as a brigadier general in the American Revolution and later commanded an irregular cavalry brigade during the War for Independence. The first permanent settler in South Euclid was George Ridgely, who arrived in 1795 from Carlisle, Pennsylvania with his family. Ridgely built a log cabin near what is now Main Street. The mill race which ran through South Euclid began operating about 1800 and by 1825 had produced flour for market all over central Ohio. In 1824, John Brougham founded Greenfield Township south of where present-day East Market Street meets Center Street (now Delaware Avenue). When it was organized as a township, Greenfield included much land that would become South Euclid within its limits; however, because Greenfield Township did not have any courts or public buildings to serve its residents until after 1830 when they were established in nearby Delaware Township, most development took place outside of South Euclid itself between those two townships and eastward into Erie County proper until very recently when resurfacing has begun along Main Street east of Center Street bringing back older commercial areas located there including one former grocery store still open today known as "the Big Store" once operated by Joplin Paper Company that closed down in 1977 but reopened as "Erie County Plaza" several years ago In recent years some new housing developments such as Ashtowne were built just east and northeast of downtownsouthwest corner Amherst Road

South Euclid, Ohio is a village in Licking County, Ohio, United States. The population was 769 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The village began as a small community on the east side of Euclid River. A post office was established in 1871, and growth stalled until a new water filtration plant arrived in the early 1980s and made South Euclid an attractive location for businesses and residential development. In 2002, South Euclid celebrated its centennial with a celebration that included an event at Kings Chapel Episcopal Church which honored local leaders such as Mayor Tom Watson and Dr. Jens Ludwig from Berlin Heights who had helped establish south Euclid as one of northeast Ohio's largest villages. South Euclid has since seen continued growth with the construction of numerous new buildings including two high schools (Euclid High School and Westlake HS) as well as several homes developments. In recent years, there have been efforts to revive downtownsouth Euclid which has seen some improvement with the opening of The Rookery restaurant by chef Ben Marcus in late 2016 and a renovation project to improve public transportation options nearby including installation of new streetlights downtown along with revitalization work on Main Street which includes repairs to sidewalks, repainting entire blocks within walking distance of business properties, making way for more parking spaces near restaurants and creating art projects throughout town like "Walking Streets" that offer multiple activities throughout each block long while also highlighting interesting historical moments or landmarks along the way
The first white settlement in the area was on South Euclid, on what is now the east side of Ohio City. In 1814, John Stuart Rediker and his family settled along the banks of the Licking River. They were among the first Europeans to set foot in what is now Ohio City. The Redikers built a cabin and started a small farm that operated until about 1840. In 1828, James Kincaid established himself as one of the first physicians in Cincinnati. He moved to Cincinnati from Perrysburg, Michigan, in 1828 and opened a practice there. In 1830 he married Martha Whitehouse and they relocated to Cincinnati together. The couple had six children: James Kincaid (1830-1850), Lucy (1832-1901), Lydia (1835-1912), George Washington Kincaid (1838-1900), Anna Stowe Kincaid (1840-1920) and Alice Morse Kincaid (1842-1925). Kincaid's medical practice grew rapidly during his years in Cincinnati; by 1840 he was serving as an assistant surgeon with the First Regiment of United States Infantry at Fort Dearborn under General Winfield Scott. He became increasingly involved in politics after moving to Cincinnati, becoming a member of both the Hamilton County Board of Elections and then Bengals' State Senate from 1841 to 1850. During this time he also developed close relationships with Ulysses S. Grant and Anthony Wayne – two future presidents – which would later play important roles during their careers. In 1850, Kincaid left Cincinnati for good because of disagreements over local political decisions; he returned home only once before dying at age 78 years old at his home near Dayton on March 5th, 1865. His wife Martha continued living after his death until her own death in 1901.)
