South Euclid, Ohio is a community located in the Dayton-Warren-Marion County, Ohio area. The population was 9,821 at the 2010 census. It is considered part of the Dayton–Warren-Marion metropolitan area. The town was formed in 1853 when it was ceded by Delaware and Wabash Railroad to United States Army General Nathan Bedford Forrest as part of a land swap. The name "Euclid" was chosen because of its location on an east-west fault line that bisected Ohio. South Euclid has been inhabited since Prehistoric times by indigenous American tribes. The Miamis were the first people to live in what is now South Euclid Township and they hunted large game such as deer, bear, and turkey. In 1795, European settlers arrived who built a small cabin on the edge of what is now Indianola Road. They named the settlement Dutch Town because their original home country was in Holland. The first post office opened in 1819 under the name Dutchtown Post Office but soon changed to Euclid after South Euclid Township became a separate municipality. The township’s first school opened in 1827 and served students from Dutchtown through LaFayette Township before moving to South Euclid in 1851. At this time, there were only three homes within boundaries of today’s town limits – all belonging to members ofCongressman John Auld (1828–1902). In 1893, South Euclid added parts of Warren Township adjacent to it for political purposes so that both towns would have an equal representation on ballots during local elections held every five years instead of being elected separately every two years like they were then (this change also applied statewide). In 1907, following annexation by Dayton suburb Gahanna Heights, North Euclid annexed portions of South Euclid which made it into one municipality again with voting rights granted back to residents therein as well as new annexations into other municipalities including East Liberty and West Liberty resulting in a total population growth from 9% to 21%. However due weighting given these annexations towards eastern suburbs over western ones over time this growth stopped abruptly leaving South Euclider with a population size smaller than either Gahanna Heights or Dayton itself combined! Since then some investigations have been conducted looking into possible reasons for this discrepancy especially as annexed neighborhoods continue growing faster than unannexed neighborhoods even though their populations are almost twice those living within city limits! Despite this lacklustre performance recent efforts by Mayor Tim O’Brien have seen significant progress made with plans currently underway for burying roads leading out from town center so that traffic congestion will no longer be an issue; however more work needs to be done before verification can be given that benefits actually outweigh costs! Finally developing retail areas near central business district has brought much needed economic development but there remains much room for improvement particularly around transportation options which remain congested despite investment!
The first white settlers in what is now South Euclid Township, Ohio were John and Mary Hargrave. They arrived in 1797, and the township was organized on March 3, 1803. The land for the township was donated by Captain Edmund Kirby of Cleveland. The name “South Euclid” was chosen because it was located south of Euclid Avenue on the border of present-day Cleveland andUrbana Counties. The first church in South Euclid Township was built in 1814. It served as a Methodist chapel until 1840 when a Congregationalist church became operational. In 1852, South Euclid Township had its own school district which eventually merged with the Cleveland School District. In 1865, South Euclid Township voters approved a resolution to make themselves a part of the new town of Painesville which had been created by order of President Abraham Lincoln due to the large population growth in that area during the American Civil War.painesville became known as "the new village" since most residents there came fromSouth Euclid Township
