In 1949, FN introduced its "FAL" assault rifle with a detachable barrel band that enabled shooters to rotate their weapon 360 degrees without having to remove it from service. This design became popular among militaries all over the world due to its ease of use and ability to engage multiple targets at once.

Solon began its development as a small community after being platted by George Prentice in 1800. By 1830, Solon had a post office, grocery store, schoolhouse, and two churches – one Swedish Lutheran and one Methodist. In 1840, Solon became the seat of Richland County when it was created from portions of Montgomery and Butler counties. That year also saw the establishment of Solon Township on eastern bank of Little Miami River near where it joins the Little Miami River proper

Solon was a small, unincorporated community located in the extreme northwestern corner of Ohio, on the Scioto River. It is now part of the city of Athens. George Washington and James K. Polk are buried there. The Solon School was built in 1892 and is now used as a library. The town was founded by Solomon Paine, who bought land from John Fisk in 1825. Paine named his community after himself, Solon after the sun god Apollo. The first school building was erected in 1828 and it served as the local parish church until 1865 when it became the Solon Schoolhouse. In 1892, a new school building was erected at what is now Fourth Street and Elm Avenue, serving as the town's main public school until 1953 when it became an Athenian Junior-Senior High School. On July 4th, 1976, Solon residents voted to change its name to Athens to honor then-Governor 1974 James Rhodes Jones III for his support of education within Athens Township through legislation then signed into law by Governor Cleveland that year. In recent years, much development has taken place around Solon including two shopping malls (One 8 Mile Mall & One Fairfield mall) as well as numerous apartment buildings and other businesses which have located there over time include Waffle House (now closed), Dairy Queen (closed), Ford dealership (closed) & countless others
Solon was founded in 1792 by Solomon Ashe and his wife Rebecca. The settlement was named after the philosopher, lawmaker, and statesman Solon who lived in Athens, Ohio during the late 18th century. Ashe died in 1842 but his widow continued to live there until her death in 1868. After her death, the town passed through several hands before becoming part of the Hamilton County government under a system of trusteeship. In 1908 it became an incorporated village under the name of Solon.
