Over the years, there have been numerous additions to the town such as a library (1931), movie theater (1977), water tower (1985), tennis courts (2005), and a large new shopping center called "Shoppers World" which opened in 2009!

The park has been used for various purposes since then, including baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a playground and a swimming pool. Sidney's history goes back even further than this – it was one of the first towns in Ohio to be incorporated on December 15th of 1802 under the name "New Salem." The incorporation happened due to strong opposition from nearby Lancaster County - which had already organized itself into twelve municipalities - over concerns about potential competition from Sidney's new town. However, New Salem quickly emerged as one of Ohio's most important communities and grew rapidly until it became an official municipality by virtue of its status on October 1st of 1803. In 1907, Sidney residents erected a monument honoring their pioneer forefathers – George Washington (1744-1827), James Kivett (1775-1857) and Alexander Hamilton (1788-1856). The monument can be found across from Pioneer Cemetery off Main Street. Today Sidney remains one of America's oldest unincorporated communities with full municipal rights dating back to 1802!
Sidney, Ohio was first settled in 1788 by the Shawnees. The name Sidney comes from a trading post along the Scioto River called "Sidi Bache." In 1814, the land that now makes up Sidney was purchased by Colonel John D. Gregg and named for him. The town of Sidney grew around Gregg's factory, which manufactured cannon balls and other munitions during the American Civil War. After the war, many businesses closed down and people lost their jobs, but they kept their homes. In 1951, Sidney got its own city government when it separated from unincorporated Medina County.
