Sidney is a city in central Ohio, United States. The population was 15,822 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Columbiana County and part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area. Sidney is located on the southern bank of the Great Miami River and is bordered by Lake Erie to the east, Washtenaw County to the south, and Holmes County to the west. The area that became Sidney was first settled by Native Americans in what is now eastern Columbiana County. In 1800, General George Washington founded what would become Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Lucas Island in present-day Sidney (then called Newtown). This maritime center helped create Columbus as a commercial mecca for river trade and commerce throughout much of southeastern Ohio. In 1814, developed land north of downtown Sidney on Broad Street between State and Superior Streets into what would become known as "Sidney". The town's first post office was established in 1816; it continued operation until 1889. At its peak, Sidney had an population of over 30 residents per square mile (1/2 km²). By 1830, however, Sidney's growth slowed due to competition from larger towns such as Dayton and Youngstown. In 1840s most commercial activity took place along State Street; today only some remnants remain of this early period including several shops unique to Sidney during that time such as The Paper Kites Shop which still exists today! In 1847 Sidney incorporated as a village under state law; it ceased operations in 1888 when incorporation became general law instead. When Ohio adopted its new constitution that year giving cities greater powers than villages, Sidney became one of thirteen cities within Cleveland Municipality – with voting rights but no charter privileges like those enjoyed by other municipalities statewide – becoming an important player in municipal politics throughout most ofCLEVELAND METRO AREA! In 1956 following Euclid's annexation into Cleveland Municipality Sidney merged with Euclid Village forming one large city once again! As decades passed more suburbs were annexed into Cleveland City Limits although many businesses still operated within Sidney limits until 1995 when they were annexed into CLEVELAND METRO AREA proper! Today much smaller communities continue to form nearby suburbs notwithin Cleveland Metro Area though their services are included within municipalities boundaries

Sidney, Ohio is a small town in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. Sidney is located on the southern border of the city of Detroit. The first settlers in Sidney were James and Nancy Howland who arrived in 1792. They founded a gristmill on the Scioto River near present-day Sidney. In 1810, they moved to what is now the east side of town and built a house that still stands today. James Howland died young in 1811 and his widow took over their mill and started it again as the Sidney Mill Company. In 1815, she married David Poehler and added his name to their business. They continued running the mill until it closed in 1870 due to an outbreak of cholera which killed many people in Ohio at that time. In 1872, they sold their mill to John Hodge who ran it for almost fifty years until it was purchased by J Hopham Jr., one of Sidney's most prominent citizens from 1916 until his death in 1978 He also served as Mayor from 1951-1959. In 1916, J Hopham Jr., along with other key residents organized the first election campaign for Mayor of Sidney when all municipal elections were combined into one single event called "The Big Day." They successfully campaigned against incumbent Mayor George Prentice who had been term limited at that time. That same year saw significant growth in Sidney with new housing being built on Third Street between Park Avenue and Broad Street which became known as "The Neighborhood". In 1938 during World War II when Crosby Air Force Base opened up within miles of town (the base would later be renamed Wright Patterson AFB), much progress was made within town during wartime construction including erection of two large military barracks (the American Legion Barracks west of Third Street between Park Avenue and Broad Streets) as well as new roads such as US 20/Mile Marker 8 which led directly into town from nearby Detroit; these developments helped spur economic development within Sidewalk Square through residential real estate purchases by both local businesses owners and developers beginning around 1945 After decades characterized by consistent decline throughout much of downtown area paralleling overall suburban growth across Southwest Michigan however some redevelopment has taken place recently including: reopening ofhistoric First National Bank building adjacent to downtown square; conversion (2003)of former Sears shoe store into an arts & crafts center featuring studios for creative expression; renovation (2007)of existing post office building into apartments following donation from Mrs Furniture company founder Louise Kapp
In 1796, Sidney was a small town in the Northwest Territory of Ohio. It was part of the Northwest Company and had a population of about 100 people. The town was abandoned in 1810 when the company dissolved its agreement to sell land to settlers.
