Sidney's growth continued during the mid-19th century as local farmers developed crop rotation systems that produced food for local consumption as well as export crops such as cotton and corn. Grain elevator development followed later in this era; but it was not until 1903 that a major bridge across the Ottawa River was constructed connecting Stamford Township with Sidney. This led to increased economic development within town limits over time, including retail stores, professional services, light industry, etc.; while also creating transportation opportunities when wagons could be driven upriver on bridges spanning the busy stream bed below downtowns like those located at Clintonville (southwest of town) or West Portsmouth (northwest of town). Today, much of what made Sidney so attractive to early settlers has been lost behind street names and synonyms such as "the Grove" or "the Village." But there are still several reminders that etched into community history: Pioneer Day events held each year on April 15th include traditional feasts such as chicken pot pie dinner; open houses are now common occurrences where citizens can learn about local businesses; cemetery activities focus more on maintenance than research these days; Sidneys High School offers classes ranging from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday morning instead of 10am-1pm like most schools do today due to limited space - making it one stop shop for students seeking education outside their home city/town/state borders...
