The first settler in Sharonville was James Crouse in 1811 and he and his wife, Mary, founded a log cabin on the present site of town on March 15, 1812. They named their home "Crouse's Neck." The first post office in Sharonville was established in 1814. Sharonville was founded in 1836 by John and Sarah E. Morrison. The town was named after the Sharon family, which had a home there before moving to Cincinnati. The Morrions were the first settlers in what is now Sharonville. They founded a gristmill,Log Cabin House, and other small businesses while they built a house on the current site of the library. In 1838, they added a school to their business empire and started selling flour, butter, eggs, and other goods from their store. By 1840, the Morrions had become one of Ohio's most prosperous families with more than 20 businesses under their belts. John Morrison died in 1850 and his wife Sarah took over as proprietor of the store and school. She continued running them until her death in 1875. During her time at the store and school, Sharonville became known for its excellent products and high-quality education for its citizens; it also developed into one of Ohio's most important agricultural towns. The Morrions are buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Sharonville. In 1951, when Ohio voters passed an amendment to its Constitution abolishing slavery throughout all of Ohio, Sharonville became part of Freedom Township (now Highland Heights). The township was organized two years later on November 3rd of that year by order of then-Governor David Boren as part of an effort to promote racial diversity within Ohio Valley communities during the tumultuous era following World War II. race played an important role in township organization because it determined eligibility for government services such as police protection or firefighting resources; these services were usually provided through outside entities rather than through municipal governments that might be tainted by racially discriminatory practices
