Sharonville is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sharonville was founded in 1825 and has been home to a military post since 1865. The town was named for Colonel Samuel Fenton Sharon, an American Revolutionary War hero who served as colonel of Brigade Twelfth Regiment (Light Infantry), 6th Ohio Infantry in 1779-80 and brigadier general in 1785-87. In 1860, Sharonville became the site of the first international gun show held in America when 20 guns from England were exhibited at the fairgrounds across from its thenexisting post office building. The event proved so successful that future shows were held there annually until 1971 when it moved to Cleveland due to city growth. In 1978, it again hosted an international show but this time with 100 firearms on display. The current armory complex was built between 1941 and 1945 by local contractor Fred Waring Jr.–the only such project ever conducted by him within Sharonville's boundaries Prior to his death in 1988, Waring bequeathed $500 per year to the town's public library which still uses his design for its lobby door handle coverings today

The area that now makes up Sharonville was originally part of the Northwest Territory, which was also called the "Great Lakes region." In 1803, General George Washington gave it to Ohio as part of the Treaty of Paris after his victory over France in the Battle of Quebec. The town started off as a tiny hamlet on the edge of what is now Mount Carmel Cemetery. Between 1819 and 1830, when Prospect Hill Road and Sycamore Avenue were built, Sharonville became one of the most prosperous villages in Northwest Territory. It wasn't until 1861 when a group of men from nearby Euclid formed a company to build a line to Cincinnati through present-day Sharonville and Parma Heights on behalf of John Dolan (the founder and first president of JDS Paper Merchants). This new township would be named for George Washington's presidential predecessor—George Washington Township. In 1870–71, local residents constructed an experimental cotton gin using water power from Beaver Dam Creek. By 1875 all but two buildings had been erected and by 1880 there were 1,500 residents in this small village near Brownsfield Lake. After years characterized by economic stagnation and recurring floods caused by heavy rains in neighboring townships like Cleveland and Akron, things changed with the arrival in 1895 of Wm Muhlenberg (founder and first presidentof Saginaw Steel Works), who brought new life to town with his steel mills! The milling boom led to increased population growth (from 1,600 in 1900 to 5,700 by 1910) while production increased from 100 tons per day to 2 million pieces per year! This created serious environmental problems because high levels of pollution led to major crop losses; however these difficulties did not stop people from continuing their downtown business activity or form social clubs such as those that eventually developed around Mount Carmel Cemetery

After World War II ended however, economic stagnation hit the town hard which contributed largely to its decline beginning in the late 1960s through early 1970s due to increased competition from larger cities throughout northwest Ohio along with suburban development across the border in Kentucky. However, despite these challenges; by 2000 Sharonville had regained some level of stability and enjoyed steady growth throughout recent decades reaching a population estimate above 21K by 2010 according to US Census figures Despite this positive trend however; there has been occasional troubling news stories associated with local government corruption or other illegal activity which have drawn attention away from Sharonville's overall success story Today, Sharonville is known for its vibrant nightlife (particularly around downtown), rich cultural heritage (including significant contributions made by African American Vernacular English immersion programs) as well as its successful economy which has seen it maintain high levels of social mobility since 1990s although some concerns remain about remaining communities do not fully embrace digital technologies
