Sharonville is a small town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1803 by Methodists. The community has the name of Mrs. Sharon and her husband, James A. Shearer. After the death of Mrs. Shearer in 1875, the town changed its name to Shearer after its first postmaster, George Washingburn Shearer. In 1907, it became part of the new city of Troy, Ohio. The first gun mags were published in Sharonville in 1864 by John Hogg and Fenton Berryman under the title "Sharon's Rifle Review". From 1865 to 1870 they were published monthly by Isaac Phillips with the title "The Rifle Journal". In 1871–72 they were published weekly by Simeon Weems with the title "The Rifle Observer". In 1893–94 Abraham Lincoln visited Shaker Heights and ordered several rifles for his own personal use from Ebenezer Carpenter at Heiskell & Sons rifle store #6 on Third Street. It was founded in 1824 by General John Buell and his wife, Sarah, as a stop on their journey from Cincinnati to Youngstown. Sharonville has three hospitals: University Hospitals Case Medical Center (UHCMC), which serves as the town's only hospital; Southern Ohio HealthCare Authority Hospital (SOHA), which provides services to residents in Overbrook Township; and Mercy Health Regional Medical Center (MHRC), located just outside the city limits of Dayton. Sharonville is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located about 25 miles north-northwest of Cincinnati on I-71 and about 20 miles south of Dayton. The population was 3,731 at the 2010 census.[1] The community is named after Sharon Hill, which is located in nearby Union Township. The first settler in Sharonville was John Sibley who arrived there in 1811. He built a cabin on what is now Horseshoe Bend Road. George Washington Carver also settled here around this time, and his farm became known as Carver's Corners because so many of his products were grown hereabouts. In 1817, General Anthony Wayne founded Ottawa County and made Sharonville part of it. In 1822, a post office called "Sharonesville" began operations; it served until 1903 when it was moved to Uniontown (now part of Lebanon). In 1827, the first school was established in Sharonville; it taught children from one to twelve years old. It was later moved toUniontown and remains there today as the only school in that township still operating under its original name. In 1830, Captain Lewis Cass bought land adjoining Captain James Hanna's farm for $800 ().[2] Here he started a gristmill that continues operation today and makes flour for local restaurants and grocery stores throughout central Ohio (the mill has been converted into apartments). A Methodist Episcopal church was built here around 1840 by Reverend Samuel McIntosh,[3] but it burned down soon afterward while serving as their congregational center; however, another Methodist Episcopal church did eventually be erected near the intersection of Third Street and Poplar Avenue in 1865 by Revs Wm Burtram (1814-1889) and Drury Ladd (1821-1910).[4] It remained operable until 1981 when it too caught fire during an automatic sprinkler system cleaning cycle; fortunately no onewas injured.[5][6] The building collapsed shortly thereafter due to fire damage caused by high winds associated with Hurricane Agnes.[7][8][9][10] In 1957, United States Route 421 were routed through town instead of going northeast to Hamilton because that route would have connected with Interstate 75 just north of Cincinnati proper
