The first settler in Sharonville was James Armstrong who arrived in 1814. In 1837, John Slingerland purchased land from Armstrong for $2 per acre. By 1840, two other settlers had also settled in what would become Sharonville: Nicholas Wagner and his son-in-law George Dyer. In 1847 Dyer married Mary Ann Grosse which gave him four children: Mary Ann Dyer; John David Dyer; and Robert Slingerland Jr.. These men helped to develop commerce in this early community by selling goods such as flour and cattle to local farmers. This business activity led to various churches being built in Sharonville including First Presbyterian Church (1860), Second Presbyterian Church (1871), Third Presbyterian Church (1907), Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel (1911), Cherokee Baptist Church (1920) and currently Stonewall Jackson United MethodistChurch (2006). In 1881, Abram Shriver bought 5 acres near present day Miller Avenue for $5 per acre from Nathan Hutton Sr.. After platting out lots within his purchase Shriver named his community after himself – "Sharonville" – becoming one of America's earliest self-proclaimed "villages". With its virgin forest soils – still some of which are used today – agriculture became an importantstay in village life with over 60 businesses operating during Prohibition years alone! Today much remains unchanged since those days including many fine homes dating back to that period like Mrs. Beardsley's original home on Broad Ripple Drive that now sits vacant but once housed Mrs."Frank" Lynchs restaurant! One highlight during prohibition era were two dances held annually at Clearwater Lake called the Country Club Ball and Heritage Ball - both featuring live music and dancing by professional entertainers from Illinois only! One dance even featured Lady GaGa performing at her then new arena across town! On July 4th 1907 Union Depot closed its doors after 110 years providing employment for many locals including 90 percent women working as clerks inside! The depot remain significant not just because it closed but also because it was one stop along the famous Toledo Railroad line linking Cleveland with Pittsburgh via Detroit - an event that attracted world dignitaries such as Woodrow Wilson who attended a public dinner there! Over time most commercial buildings have been replaced by newer times with only a few remaining examples like Mrs.(John) Lynchs restaurant still standing among others! Today living memories continue long past these physical objects like when Mayor(Bob) Cook hosted President Reagan here on October 11th 1985 following their visit to Butler County for an economic development summit!!!

The first permanent settler in Sharonville was James Aiken who arrived in 1812. He and his family were pioneers and founded the city of Sharonville on May 10, 1813. Aiken was an early advocate for education in the area and helped found both the small school that still exists today (now known as Sharonville High School) and the present day Sharonville Academy which offers magnet programs such as business administration, engineering, law enforcement/security, music theory/performance arts and health sciences. Sharonville's rich history can be traced back to its founding date when James Aiken laid out a square mile of land on high ground just west of modern day Yorktown Heights within what is now unincorporated Clinton County. This square mile became known as "The Square Mile." In 1827, Wm. Hogg erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street near Fairgrounds Road to accommodate settlers coming from surrounding townships such as Miamisburg and West Union into what would become Sharonvil
