Sharonville is a city in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. The Sharonville Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The area that now makes up Sharonville was first settled by Germans in 1814 and named after the family's farmstead in Germany: "Schonhausen". The first permanent settler arrived in 1825 and called their community Germanna (later renamed Sharonville). In 1836, two families from Illinois bought land near what is now downtown Sharonville and founded what became the Township of Germanna. The town site was surveyed by John Ladd based on his plat Map No. 2 which he filed with the local government on April 21, 1837. On July 1, 1840, it was incorporated as a village under the name "Sharonville". That same year saw another important event when construction began on a courthouse located just east of town square; this structure would become one of many landmarks cultural and civic importance to Sharonville over time. On October 25, 1850 Ohio General Assembly passed an act creating Butler County; part of this act included township form for areas within Butler County not yet part of Carroll or Warren Counties – including Germanna Township (among other changes). With these new boundaries set in place, township elections were held on November 3rd 1850 and all trustees were elected at-large with no ward system established until 1865 when voting became partisanly divided into thirds party members only could be elected to office through nomination process instead of electioneering as had been done hitherto. This change came about due to fact that certain landowners refused to allow township trustees direct representation on their property lines because they felt this would give too much power to factions within their own midst rather than those who represented them best interests financially and politically speaking – something that would continue until quite recent times although some recently reelected trustees have broken ranks again amidst accusations thereof). Sharonville was founded in 1819 by General Israel Putnam and his wife Deborah. The town was named for the Sharon Mountains, located near the town. The Putnams were the first settlers in what is now Sharonville. In 1837, the Townsite Act was passed which created a township of Sharonville with a meeting house and four streets. The townsite grew rapidly and in 1840, a schoolhouse and other buildings were erected on land donated by John Wiegand. In 1847, the village of Sharonville became an incorporated municipality with its own government. This village included a bank, stores and homes. The town advanced rapidly and in 1865 it had two churches: one Congregational, one Methodist. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in Sharonville; 10 more came soon after that year when a post office was established at the town site. In 1885, during prohibition, many people in Sharonville supported prohibition because they believed that it would help keep crime down while also helping to create jobs within the community. However, most of the population opposed prohibition and only 5% of those living in Sharonville voted for repeal of Prohibition laws when they met on November 3rd., 1886.; however this does not mean that all residents support prohibition no matter how popular it may have been at times during its heyday
