Sharonville is a small town in northeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sharonville is located on the Scioto River, about 26 miles (41 km) northeast of Akron and 54 miles (87 km) south of Cleveland. The first settler in what would become Sharonville was Nicholas Ioffe in 1792. In 1821, George Washington Carver came to the area and founded Carver's Mills on the Scioto River. In 1825, John Hennepin opened a store in Sharonville and began selling goods from his establishment downriver to other settlers. A post office was established at Sharonville in 1827 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1860, one of the earliest schools in what would become Sharonville was opened by Mrs. Mercy Welsh with six students grades K through 8th grade taught by her daughters Anna and Lillie Welsh; this school eventually became known as Welsh Elementary School after Mrs. Welsh donated land for its construction on which it stands today. By 1870, there were an total of 27 businesses operating within town limits including three stores, four blacksmiths/forge operators, two printers/posters, one wagonmaker/carriage maker and eleven farmers who raised pigs, cows and hogs among other things from their farmlands that now make up much of downtown Sharonville today. In 1875–76 when American Railroads extended their line between Athens Junction north to cartersburg north through what are now Strongsboro Township (east side), Uniontown Township (west side), Moon Township (north side), Columbiana County (south side), Broad Ripple Township (east side), Carroll County (west side) via Myles Creek Valley – then only village – into far northwestern Stark County due east across Myles Creek Valley to Columbus – all these new railroad towns saw rapid growth as people built homes alongheny railroads providing easy access to jobs at big companies such as Parma Meat Packaging Company & Trust Company’s meatpacking plants just outside Sandusky while also visiting centralOhio every day for business or pleasure Amtrak passenger trains stopped at each stop making this very convenient for settlers living close enough yet still having plenty of privacy thanks also to new state highway 30 running parallel but actually inland from main road route 30 so no one ever had too many strangers coming into town looking for them trying to rob them etc…nowadays most products we purchase online or even over the phone are shipped rightto your door thereby eliminating those pesky “internet shopping mall security guards” you always see outside retail stores
