Sharonville is located in Hamilton County, Ohio. It has a population of around 50,000 and is home to the Sharonville Museum of History and Art. The town was founded in 1811 and first incorporated as a village in 1824. It was renamed Sharonville in 1870 after President Ulysses S. Grant's hometown of Aurora, Illinois. The first binoculars were created by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. He patented his design for two monoculars with magnification of 20x and 25x. The first commercial production began in 1798 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte & Sons at their factory on High Street in Sharonville. These early binoculars had either a single lens or an unsuccessful mirror system which required one eye to focus while the other looked through the back window at something on the opposite side of the room. In 1810, Jameson & Company began producing high quality binoculars under the name "Jameson Monocular". This company produced over 100 different models between 1810 and 1830 inclusive some still extant today including model 1860 which has been preserved at the New York Historical Society! In 1830, George Washington Keyes joined Jameson & Company as its Vice President and continued to produce high quality binoculars until his death in 1876! During Keyes' tenure, Jameson also became known for their fine engineering skills that led to many innovations during their product development process such as: In 1865, Edwin Haggerty (founder of JHG Optics) joined Jameson as its Vice President! Under Haggerty's guidance, Jameson transitioned from being an engineering firm into a manufacturer of optics products including binoculars! From 1865 until his death in 1924, Edwin Haggerty was responsible for all marketing and sales activities for JHG Optics products! After Edwin Haggerty's death, John Ayer (founder of Ayer Shaw Optics) took over management duties within JHGOptics before becoming its Managing Director in 1954! In 1984, JHGOptics merged with Harvester Inc., creating what is now America's second largest optical manufacturers!!! Binocular production resumed after Harvester's acquisition by Bushnell Industries but ceased altogether due to technological limitations circa 1990!!! Today there are few if any remaining manufactured original examples left with pricesranging anywhere from $5-$50 each!!!

In 1830, two men, Job and David Hinkle, established the first glass-making business in Sharonville. They developed a process for making small windows from natural materials such as rock and lime. The business grew rapidly and by 1851, it was being run by Hinkle's son. In 1861, the company moved to what is now the town of Northfield in Summit County. During World War II, the company made binoculars for use by American troops.

The village has two public schools: one high school and one middle school; two churches; one library; one post office; and sixfactories that produce products such as clothing, shoes, furniture, appliances, food processing supplies, among others. Sharonville also has three parks: One located on the east side of town near I-71 exit 12B (the "Industrial Park"); another on the west side of town near I-271 exit 20A (the "Lake Erie Park"); and another on the north side of town between I-71/I-271 exits 21C/21D (the "Greenfield Park").

However, by the late 1800s, some of these newer industries were beginning to experience competition from other rural towns in Ohio who were starting to develop their own factories. In 1907, an act was passed which granted township status to Sharonville making it an official municipality with its own government and budgeting process. This change helped spur additional development within thetown and helped make it one of Ohio's most prosperous communities during this time frame.
Sharonville was founded by Mormons in 1847. The town was named for Sharon, a small village in Israel. It became a center of the Utah-based Mormon Church after President Brigham Young led a group of followers to Ohio in 1851. The church purchased 2,000 acres of land near the present day city of Columbus in 1856 and began construction on what is now the Sharonville Temple. The temple was dedicated in 1861 and served as the headquarters for the church until it was destroyed by arson in 1984.
