Sharonville is a small town in the Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Muskingum River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), all land. The first permanent settler in Sharonville was James Laughlin, who arrived in 1795 and bought 640 acres (24 ha) of what is now Sharonville from Nicholas Wilson. In 1816, John Noyes founded a gristmill on the north bank of the Muskingum River. By 1825, there were six stores and 116 residents in Sharonville; by 1830, it had ten stores and 300 residents. In 1836–37, developer Elisha Cook built a dam across the river at present-day Parkersburg to power his flour mills; downstream landowners granted him access to water for his mill operations free of charge. For many years after this date, Parkersburg was considered an important center for commerce and industry in central Ohio because it supplied both Sharonville and Canton with flour for local markets In 1860–61 when Ohio became a state following its admission into Confederation as part of the Union against secession by Kentucky and other slave states – much like Massachusetts had done three decades earlier – Sharonville voters approved annexation by Canton Township (now Muskingum County). This annexation created problems because some citizens wanted to keep their independent identity while living within cantonshared borders; they formed a group known as "the Patriots" to resist incorporation into Canton but lost when that township seceded from Unionism in 1862. One problem solved: When territorial governments were established within each state following its admission into Union (e.g., Pennsylvania & New York City), new townships were carved out corresponding largely to industrial areas such as those around Lancaster or Dayton; henceforth all municipalities within each newly created district were incorporated into that district's government rather than remaining separate entities under individual commissionersial control until such time as they voted to secede from that district's government again This process continued through most of Reconstruction era throughout Ohio until finally Cleveland became an independent city in 1898 . In 1865 Eastern Railroad began mainline rail service from Pittsburgh via Youngstown & Erie Canal southward through Sharonville then westward along current US Route 612 southward before terminating at Massillon just north of Cleveland Eastern Railroad abandoned line east of present day Parkersburg between 1903-1904 due to low traffic levels
Sharonville was founded in 1836 by John and Priscilla Sharon. The town was named for the Sharon family, which had owned land in the area for many years.
