Shaker Heights, Ohio is a small town located in the northwestern part of the United States. The population was 41,203 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first ShakerResidents arrived in 1787 when John Adams and his family moved to what is now Shaker Heights from Burlington, Vermont. They built their first log cabin on Goose Island near present day West Side Highway and Euclid Avenue. After five years they abandoned the island because of bad luck with ships crossing in those waters. However, they continued to build their cabins there and over time grew into a lively community of about 1,000 residents that included farmers, mechanics, milliners and other professional people. The land where Shaker Heights sits today was originally part of the township of Mayfield which was established in 1802 by order of General James Kapp as part of an effort to strengthen Ohio's Frontier defenses against Native American raids. The area became a separate township on February 14, 1814 when it was organized as Athens Township under territorial government following the end of the Mexican–American War (1846-47). On January 1, 1854 Shaker Heights became a borough within Athens Township after it voted to secede from that township over taxes and incorporation into Cleveland proper. In 1898 during an annexation referendum authorized by Cleveland city charter #5776 (amendments thereto effective December 25), Shaker Heights voting 3%, alongside parts of Medina and North Olmsted townships also annexed by Cleveland within its limits; these three communities formed new city wards: City Hall Square north side east corner west side opposite Public Library complex Norbert Leroy Garrett

Glenville Village is located adjacent to Shaker Heights Village on Walnut Creek Avenue and shares a single school building with both villages. The village has a population of just over 100 people as of 2008. Shaker Heights lies along an ancient trade route that connected eastern Pennsylvania with western Ontario via Lake Erie and Niagara Falls. early settlers in this region were among those who helped build up this country during its earliest days and continue to play an instrumental role in its development today. Some early settlers were Johnathan Dayton, his brother James Dayton, Solomon Ruddock, Ebenezer Sprague, Timothy Goodrich and others who came from Mount Lebanon Township in Lancaster County (now York County) Pennsylvania in 1759-1760; they started what became known as "The First Colony" near present day Uniontown, West Virginia., after landing on Beaver Island near modern day Pittsburgh before traveling through what is now Delaware County into northeast Ohio where they founded a congregation called The first Presbyterian Church at Geneva (now Cincinnati), also called Shakers because they had been asked to move from Jamaica Plain (near Boston) to this area by Revs Dr George Washington Smith and Isaac Strong when their church there failed financially about three years earlier- these men being associated with Reverend William Davenport who had beenPastor at Kingston (in present day Toledo) since 1749- these men establishing what would become one of America's largest Congregational churches later that decade- prior to arriving here themselves.-shakers settling at Geneva around 1768.-the first Pastor being Rev Dr George Washington Smith.-..this congregation soon grew too large for Reverend Davenport's small chapel so he built himself a larger edifice which still stands today on Euclid Avenue just north of River Road east side main street between Vine Street & Genesee Street across from North Park Elementary School- continuing services until 1847 when membership disbanded due to lack of financial support
