After the war ended, many people left Shaker Heights for different reasons but some remained until they died or moved away. However, according to 2000 census figures, there are still more than 200 people living within a radius of 5 miles of Greater Cleveland University (GCEU).
Shaker Heights is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,574 at the 2010 census. The name of the town derived from the Shaker religious sect. The first permanent settler in what is now Shaker Heights was John Foust, who arrived in 1792 and built a cabin on the site of what is now East Side Market. He named his cabin "Foust's Mount". Other early settlers included James Ford and Isaac Dunham. In 1812, Daniel Webster moved to Shaker Heights from Delaware Township in Sandusky County and began to build a plantation there.Webster became one of the wealthiest men in Ohio and made significant contributions to Republican Party politics throughout his life. He died in 1841 at age 84 years old after a long and successful career as an American politician
