Seven Hills is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Columbiana County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,593. The city is named for seven hills that make up its core geography: Mount Adams (northwest), Highfields (northeast), Maple Creek (southwest), Northfield (southeast), Westview Heights (southwest) and Woodlawn Heights (southwest). The name "Seven Hills" comes from an early plat of land in Columbiana County and may have been chosen to represent all the rural hills surrounding it. The first settler in Seven Hills was James Aiken who arrived on July 8, 1792. He built a cabin on what is now Mount Adams Hill and cleared land for his farm which he called Pigeon Forge Township. Other early settlers included John Denton, Ebenezer Armour, Amos Dickey, Nicholas Haggerty and George Stephenson among others. When Nineveh exploded in 1804, part of Columbiana County blew away with it including Seven Hills which emerged as a new town under development by local farmers led by David Ladd. Named after Ladd's father-in-law General Gideon Welles, Seven Hills quickly became one of America's most thriving cities with around 1,000 residents by 1810. It experienced rapid growth due to its strategic location at the intersection of two major transportation corridors - those emanating from Cincinnati through Ohiopyle Ferry Road to Great Northern Railway tracks running east-west across the city limits - as well as numerous businesses catering to both farmers and traders lining Main Street throughout their day long operation fueled by heavy trade volume coming into town during these years when much like today’s HamiltonCounty – had no quitters or shirkers! In 1814 Six Mile Run Creek burst its banks causing widespread flooding that destroyed many homes along Main Street south of Center block but also created valuable farmland upstream including farms located on Highland Avenue SE today known as 7th StRE LLC & Greenlee Farms LLC among others; this area would become known later as Northfielderdale thanks to Captain Elias Chatman who laid out road thereabouts back in 1830! Townsite plat dated October 25th1814 shows six lots surveyed for $127 each lot being divided equally between 2 men: Richard Smith & Nathaniel Fenton having first choice based upon square footage surveyor Capt Jno Bickerton took measurements within boundaries laid out therein; platted boundaries noted herein… map dated November 3rd1814 shows Lots Nos 6 & 7 sold together for $269 12/3/1814 resulting in total real estate value above stated amount plus lot 8 adjoining it valued at $120 cash received!! This event served notice to other citizens that they too could reap some benefits from governmental investment!! Soon after this sale commissioners Nathan Fenton & Richard Smith met with Daniel McMullen JR., Surveyor General for the Western Reserve Territories under direction of Gen Wm Browning about plans for a public square at Seventh StRE corner now occupied by Columbus Market Place!!! In view thereof they made arrangement whereby surveys were again taken thenceforth every weeknight until said square measure was completed…..thissquaremeasuremeasuredapproximate 400 ft²…. Map dated December 4th1814 showing lots No 9 – 11 & 12 sold together for $333 12/4/1814 resulting in total real estate value above stated amount plus lot 13 adjoining it valued at $183 cash received!! The Seven Hills community was founded in 1875 by a group of farmers who had moved from the northeast Ohio city of Mahoning Heights. The original town site is now the eastern edge of Akron, and portions of the community are located in Muskegon Heights and Canton. The original settlers were Methodists from northern England, and they named their settlement after seven hills that stretched out before them on their farmstead. The hills were North Hill, South Hill, East Hill, West Hill, Valley Farm Road (now I-580), and Country Club Drive. In 1881, the first post office was established in Seven Hills. The community grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, and by 1915 it had reached a population of 1,500 people. In 1916Seven Hills became one of three towns in Summit County (the others being Highland Heights and Fairfield) when Summit was created from part of Mahoning County. During World War II,Seven Hills played an important role as a military training ground for local boys. More than 2,000 local men served in World War II; many went on to become successful merchants or professionals. The development of transportation made Seven Hills more accessible during the postwar period; in 1957 Three Rivers Electric Company built a transmission line through Seven Hills to bring electricity to Akron from neighboring towns. As time passed and other communities developed within Summit County, Seven Hills gradually lost its importance as an agricultural center; today it remains a small farming town with few commercial interests other than agriculture. However, there are periodic celebrations marking milestones in Seven Hills history - such as the 200th anniversary celebration for the founding of Six Mile Creek Dam which took place last year - and some residents continue to attend annual fairs which feature amusements like midway games and tractor rides
